Hestia’s Dinner Party
Hestia decided to have a dinner party. She fired up the stove and started to prepare her stew. After it had been simmering for a while, she went to taste the stew and found a small person sitting on her spoon. Quite surprised, she placed them on a tea towel, dried them off, and asked who they were.
"I don't know," said the creature, "you made me. Who am I?"
Hestia thought about this for a little while and then said "I think I'll call you a Hin."
"I like that. What can you teach me?"
Hestia thought for a while, and then told them everything she knew about how to keep a good home, a warm fire, and make good food.
The Hin, who had decided to call them self Erbin Summerpot , said thank you, and then asked,
"What else?"
A littled flustered, Hestia was relived when her friend Lillendir knocked on the door, early as usual. Hestia ushered her in and asked her to talk to Erbin Summerpot about things that she know. Admiring the small creature, Lillendir told them the secrets of how to tame the wilds and nature, how to turn the land to create crops and raise animals, but also how to do so without being too disruptive to the world around them.
"Thank you," said Erbin, "what else?" Luckily, during this time, the other guests had started to arrive, and they were all queuing up to speak to Hestia's new friend. Garron told them about crafting, teaching them how to make things with their hands, and how to use them for prosperity, and how travel and show people their wares.
"Thank you, what else?"
Grendal showed them all his instruments, taught them how to play musics, and how to dance to these tunes. As the music played, Hestia's guests all danced, and so the Erbin Summerpot.
"Thank you, what else?"
Niamh showed them how to manipulate the weave, how to cast spells, and how to help others with magic. Erbin Summerpot copied her gestures, said her words, and cast wonderful magics.
"Thank you, what else?"
Taldir showed Erbin Summerpot how to play little tricks on people, how to be hidden, and how to take things that really should belong to them. He gave laughter with his tricks, and knowledge with his wiles.
After the food, drink, dancing, and merriment, the Hin thought for a second and then said
"I think that's everything I need to know now, thank you"
When they said this, Torag stepped forward, and picked up the little person.
"Now you've asked all your questions, you can come home with me, and we will live in paradise together."
"Thank you," said Erbin Summerpot, "I think that stew was wonderful, maybe you could make it again." And, as all her guests went home, Hestia decided she would make that stew again. And this time, she made many more Hin, and put them in the world.
