Kresk
The village of Kresk is build at the foot of the Abbey of Saint Markovia. Burgomaster Dmitri Krezkov heads up the walled village. His family build the village after Strahd von Zarovich and his armies conquered Barovia. He is not happy to see visitors to his small town. Fearing that they may be working with Strahd, he doesn't like strangers. But being Barovian nobility he is bound by his honor and lets the party within the walls. The Burgomaster is saddened by the lost of his last child Ilya, who has died of a sickness at the age of 14. Dmitri and his wife Anna are the last of the Krezkov bloodline. With the death of their last child their line ends with them.
The village doesn't have many citizens and they never leave the walls as it is too dangerous to travel. The cold brisk air also means getting caught in the wilderness after dark is a deadly game. The Abbey of Saint Markovia is a place no longer visited by the townsfolk. They are too afraid to travel there with all the strange screams and cackles heard at odd hours. The church bell rings out seemingly as it pleases. The Abbot isn't spoken of kindly in town. The towns people are wary of him due to the happenings.
The Abbey of Saint Markovia, once a hospital and a convent now lays frozen in time. The Abbot has lived there for longer than he or anyone can remember. Time is hard to track in Barovia. Strangely the Abbot is surrounded by mongrels. People with human parts and the parts of beasts. Some have cloven feet, dog snouts, donkey tails and the wings of bats. The strange menagerie all seem to have vastly different personalities. The Abbot tells the party when they visit that he has taken these people in and healed their wounds and cured illnesses. Unfortunately, arcane components can be hard to come by so he has to use the parts of animals to make due. Several of the mongrels seem to be perfectly normal, aside from their different body parts. The only thing the Abbot is unable to cure is their mental sicknesses. A large group of mongrelfolk appear to be mad. He has them locked away guarded by a flesh golem. The Abbot also has what appears to have a lifeless version of Ireena Kolyanovich.
