The Federation States of Babados

The Sprawling empire that spans the western seas to the eastern plains and borders the Entwining Sea this mishap collection of kingdoms have become one of the premier political force of the area.

Structure

Emperor: The Emperor rules over the whole of the Federation of States and is in charge of military affairs, appointing ambassadors, and is the head of the foreign policy of the Empire. They have shared rule with the Federation Diet in making rules and laws that the states must abide by within the empire. The role of the emperor as well is to be a mediator between the ruling members of the states and to judge the internal affairs accordingly to the morals, and laws as set by both the Emperor, The Diet, and the Church of Torag.   Federation Diet: This is made up of all the noble families within the states. Each family is allowed one representative to be present in the diet. This can be a retainer, member of the family, or whomever the family decides to send. The diet is in charge of approving budgets as proposed by the Emperor for the upkeep of Empire constructions or maintaining the army, or navy, or for whatever else falls under the jurisdiction of the Emperor. The Diet also approves any laws proposed by the Emperor and can draft bills that can become laws when met with the approval of the Emperor. The Diet also approves the tax rate as set by the Emperor. In times of dire emergencies, the Diet can temporarily give up its powers to the Emperor for a period of 3 months after which a continuing resolution must be reached by 2/3rds of the diet to allow those powers to be kept by the Emperor for the emergency.   Church of Torag: The Major Deity worshiped throughout the Kingdom is the Dwarven God Torag. The states are mostly made up of dwarves, humans, and gnomes and most of them had their chief religion be that of the Dwarven Pantheon. While it has no formal role in the affairs of the states itself the Church of Torag has tremendous influence at all levels in the Federation. It is said that to go against the church is to go against the states themselves.   Kings: Each of the various states that make up Barbados is officially run by a king who has pledged allegiance to the Emperor. They are in charge of running their own territories and are held responsible to the Diet and Emperor. The king is an inherited position and often if he or she is found to be working against the good of the Federation are stripped of their power and the heir or next of kin are appointed to the place of King. Otherwise, the King has autonomy from the Diet and the Emperor and are given the power to govern their state as they see fit.   Governors: These are government officials that can be of noble birth or not and are often in charge of managing multiple states and overseeing the boundaries and sovereignty of each state is being respected. A governor will often try to settle any disputes between the states before involving the Emperor. Duke: Is both a title and a position given to sons and daughters of the ruling family within a state. Dukes typically have the responsibility to overlook large sections of the state with their lands being called a Duchy and these are named after an ancestor.   Count: Counts rule smaller areas of a duchy in smaller areas known as counties.   Baron: Barons often rule over small areas of land or over various towns and cities.   Burgomaster: The town leader, if a baron does not rule over a town usually they have an elected official that is granted the title of Burgomaster.

Mythology & Lore

*The majority of the following information is based on Torag from the Pathfinder RPG setting and I will indicate in this article which is of my own original content.   Creation: Back in the primordial dawn of time there was the raw material of the universe and the undying heat. As the various pieces of the divine earth clashed and fused together from the heat from the dawn that from these Torag came into being. From here Torag saw the unending possibilities from the chaos that was before him but also saw how some were too unseemly that they must be contained. From observing how the stones clashed from the intense heat Torag discovered the art of foraging. After the task of putting the forge together, Torag went to work on his first creation of the forge. Using his mighty hammer Kaglemros to beat the stones of creation upon his forge. As he did the stones became shaped in all forms with the first being the dwarves. The sparks became embedded in these bodies giving them life. That is how the world of Istari came to be and how life was gifted to the races.   Shield of Torag: After the creation of the world and the races there was a time where there was a peace but that did not last. Out from the chaos came Lamashu the mother of monsters, and she as the first demon. Her form was unbound and unknown but when Torag gave form to the world and many of the planes he gave the chaos a form as well. Lamashu looked out at the world and the felt a revulsion deep from her bowels aganist the her own form and bounded shape of the world. The seeds of her disgust and wrath took root in her womb. She let out a deep resounding roar that shook the earth causing many rifts and canyons to mar the surface. In this roar her first children were born to the world and many mortals were killed. Mortals had no weapons, and no protection they were easy prey. They cried to Torag to protect them but he could not. Even with his mighty hammer sweeping the monsters back did not protect him from their claws and fangs. He decided to hold his ground as he carved deep caverns in the mountains for the mortals to hold his children   The birthing of Dwarves:   Forage of Torag:

Cosmological Views

The Church of Torag views the world as being created by Torag and his kin. They see all the races of Istari as being created by Torag but have been adopted by the other gods. To them, all the races are welcomed and are children of Torag but the dwarves are his first and his favorite children as they cherish his goals, and follow his commandments more so than any other race. The other dwarven gods are seen as the brother and sisters of Torag but he is often viewed as the Patron father of the Dwarven pantheon on the continent of Thorath. The followers of the Thorathian Dwarven Pantheon view the physical earth, mountains, ground, caves, and other geological features as being crafted upon the forage of Torath itself but see the trees, rivers, and animals as other creations by other gods or the other dwarven gods. Toraites have huge respect towards other cultures, races, and kingdoms that share their ideals of order even if they do not worship Torag as they see them as cultural brothers and are potential people open to the word of Torag.

Tenets of Faith

Toraites follow a strict honor code to emulate their god and his desire to have order in the world and to fight against the chaos that comes from living a life without a purpose. This does not mean to Toraites that they can not have the freedom to choose what they want to do with their life but instead, as they grow and move ahead they must do so with a purpose and plan that benefits them and those around them. The core of their beliefs are summarized below:   Forge: Toraites believe that one should be able to forge their own path, however, they are called to look at their communities to see what needs to be replaced or be improved on leading to many to choose careers that a town or city need.   Protection: Toraites are called to protect one another and to help strangers as well who are in need of protection. This has lead to many agreements with leaders to treat people who seek sanctuary at a temple of Torag to be given protection until a trial by the Temple can be held to hear the case.   Earth: Toraites are called to protect the earth from which all of the treasures that Torag put there for his children. Torag encourages his children to look for the gifts he has left but also to pay the proper honors to him when such troves are found. This often involves celebrations praising his name and putting some of the goods of gold, sapphires, copper, and the like in special shrines as well.   Law: Toraites believe in following a code of law such as their tenants to achieve the greatest quality of life that Torag wants for his forge born children.   Creed of Torag: For the Father of Creation, We forge our own paths as he forged the world from his anvil. We strive to protect his creations and to bring order to the chaos that his enemies strive to sow. We plan for the good of our brothers and sisters and to show respect to them as we show respect to the creation that our father has given us. we will show no mercy to those who stand against the order of our father, and bring the shield and hammer of his justice on them. Parise to Torag! The Father of us all! Now go children of the forage may his shield protect you as you bring his order.
