Artio

"May you find my guidance in the cold winds"

The Frost Maiden

Artio, The Lady of Wicked Frost, is one of two patron deities of the Felvithar of Norrim and the bondmate of Felwin. Artio is often described as the more compassionate half of the divine pair. In the Age of Divinity it is said Artio was quite fond of her followers and would frequently commune with them. Unlike her bondmate, Artio preferred a more humanoid form and rarely took the shape of an owl or wolf, her respective avatars. Of the two, Artio was more favored for her direct approach and the invaluable wisdom she bestowed.    Of the three Avatars of Winter, Artio is represented by two, the Rime Wolf and the Dusk-Wing Owl. The Rime Wolf is believed to represent both the strength and community of the Felvithar people and the Dusk-Wing Owl represents their grace and wisdom. Like the Titanborn Ursine, both the Wolf and the Owl have become a rarer sight.     Ascendant   The Ascendant, mortals blessed with immense divine powers, of Artio were said to be masters of Arcana, specialized in ice magics and fought with keen wisdom. Their unique abilities allowed them to manipulate ice magics unlike any other and with the sheer power to decimate entire armies.     Realm   Boreus is the realm shared by both Felwin and Artio and resides within the plane of Aetherius. Boreus is described in ancient Felvithar texts as a quaint realm of everlasting winter, however, while one might expect a frigid hell of inescapable frost, the realm is said to be the exact opposite. It is a place of soothing winds and comforting serenity, where snow falls gently and magnificent ice structures flow throughout.

Artifacts

Artio's Bow   Artio's Bow is described as an elegant weapon made from Absolute Ice, enchanted ice found only in the coldest regions of Iskara. It is said that centuries ago Artio herself wielded the weapon with exquisite grace. The bow was left behind by Artio in the final days of the Age of Divinity in hopes that one worthy enough of its power would use to protect the Felvithar but the bow has gone without this valiant wielder for some time now.   In regards to the bow's capabilities, few can rival it. As long as there is some Arcana in the general vicinity of the weapon it is capable of drawing upon it to form its arrows, thus the bow is theoretically capable of generating an infinite amount. These arrows of Absolute Ice are so potent that whatever it strikes is immediately entombed. Following the shot of one these arrows comes a gusting, frigid wind that clashes with the frozen target, shattering it on impact.

Holidays

Winhun   Winhun is a two day event of hunting and feasting. On the first day participants gather to prepare and set off to hunt whatever they can. After several hours these participants return to their communities and begin storing and preparing their harvest. The next day is one of great celebration, appreciation, and a bit of indulgence. Communities come together to cook, feast, and celebrate life and the Divines that guide them, especially Artio on this day.

Personal history

Like most of the Divines, Artio made herself known to mortals in the final years of the Dragon Era. With her bondmate Felwin, Artio would take an interest in the Felvithar people and would guide them into a prosperous future. For centuries she would do so, in a rather direct and compassionate manner, and watched as her worshippers flourished under their guidance. However, after the Incursion, a horrid event of near apocalyptical proportions, Artio much like the rest of the Divines vanished with little trace and has been silent for centuries.
