A group of women stands in a circle, chanting words in a ritual. Old hands hold young, voices seemingly ancient chanting above those who are nothing more than children. A door opens and closes, the circle parts between the two oldest, and the Matron of House Baenre takes her place at the head, aiding the ritual. The two women who parted share a look, but it is brief and their emotions are once again hidden behind perfectly crafted facades.
Simyra Baenre is the oldest of the children of former Matron Xune. She was in line to become the next Matron, the oldest of the children, but that no longer mattered upon her mother’s death and Zilvra's ascent. She was too late to make her move and follow the despicable path that many Matrons travel. Now, she can only serve her sister.
Centuries later, she now serves as the second of the priestesses, making her an assistant to her sister. She trains the women, leading them through intricate rituals, teaching their ways and place. This had been her place beneath her mother, preparation for her true role. Now it is something she shares with her younger sister Triel, serving the house and the Matron, even if that is not their wish.
