A curious and seldom learned language from the
Southern Continent that bears a striking similarity to the ambient sounds any traveler would recognize from the vast swamplands that are most common on the
Southern Continent. Speakers of this language are most commonly
Anura, though you may find some
Reptilians that understand the language, they would refuse to attempt speaking it and call it a "feeder" language which indicates they view the
Anura as food. The script for Anuran uses circular motions that a creature with smaller hands and arms could easily make and there are curious cross-section marks placed below some portions of the script that seem to denote enunciation and constriction of the throat or a muted sound in a similar way to the difference between consonants and vowels in the
Common language.
This is a younger language in the world, appearing shortly after the toad-like race of
Anura first emerged in Isekai and it shares some construction similarities with
Neró. It is not out of the question that
Anura would be able to make meager communications and discussions with a
Water Elemental or a creature from the deep sea if they crossed paths. Those that have spent time listening to and studying the language describe it as a mixture of croaks, groans, and intermingled patterns that have a near musical quality if the sound is not off-putting. The script is noted as easy to learn in theory but tedious in creation because it requires a certain accuracy of sweeps and various sizes of circular motions that appear to come more naturally to creatures with smaller appendages or when those closer to a
Human in size choose to write the script on a larger scale. This language has a presence on both continents, it is more widespread throughout the swamps and waterlogged areas of the
Southern Continent but can still be found by native speakers in the
Moorlands of the
Northern Continent.
The advantages of speaking this language lie directly in dealing with aggressive tribes or when you find yourself captured by the
Anura species who are known for rough treatment of unwelcome visitors to include imprisonment. If you speak and read this language, you are unlikely to receive any special favors or interests from
Scholars as they appear to have little interest in the language due to the aggression level of the native speakers. Regionally, you may have the odd advantage of gaining passage through
Anura swamplands or tribal home with the ability to even make trade deals with
Anura though they remain suspicious of outsides and will never become full allies, rather staying as a cautious neutral party in even the best of circumstances. There is no particular disadvantage to learning this language though it will be a matter of conversation among
Reptilians who may regard you as a weaker creature if you choose to engage in the language of something that they consider to be an easy food source.
I bet this language sounds interesting when you listen to it. Don't think I want to risk Reptilians thinking I'm a food source, though.
