Reclamation

The Reclamation is a dark ritual devised by Meridian to be conducted on humans who are believed to posses Celestial heritage. First conducted successfully in the year 89 AA, the ritual awakens and corrupts the subject's latent Celestial traits, if present. When complete, the subject is interned for several years at a local Institute where they are bestowed the ability and knowledge necessary to hold positions of power across The Divine Primacy. Those chosen for this privilege are often called Acolytes or Potentiates, depending on the region.
Subjects who are chosen for Reclamation who turn out to not have sufficient latent Celestial ability - whether it be that they were mistakenly identified as having such, or that their heredity is simply too far removed from a pure Aasimar - have unpredictable outcomes. Many are physically overwhelmed by the process and expire or suffer a chronic disability or illness. Others are mentally overwhelmed and may suffer anything from lasting amnesia, post-traumatic stress, or full-blown psychosis. A few are cast out with no lasting effects, save for a newfound fear of Meridian's power.

Ordination

The selection process errs on the side of inclusiveness and if one is so much as rumored to have Celestial heritage, their family will likely be served a Writ of Ordination and given some time to gather their belongings for a trip to a nearby Sanctuary. Their expenses are most often paid for, and the family is provided a retinue of guards to escort them in their travel.
Acolytes are chosen as early in their lifetimes as possible, often by the age of 15, but no earlier than 12. The reclamation process is very physically taxing and would be too much for most children to endure, even with the added advantage of Celestial heritage; however, a young mind is more suited to the mental trials an Acolyte will experience. If one is discovered to have Celestial heritage later in life, however, the benefit of a successful Reclamation is worth the risk, in the eyes of the Primacy.
