Order of the Blue Sun

The Order of the Blue Sun is a vigilante organization based in Grand Veil and operating throughout Launica (and on occasion, beyond the province), seeking to bring the creeds of the Old World and recognition of The Old Gods to the population of Grand Veil. They pursue their ends at nearly any cost, with means rooted in dubious moral codes influenced by the long standing reign of evil that has befallen the civilized world.   Though recognition of the Old Gods is recognized as one of their ideals, they are hardly a religious organization. Primary to their goals is the disruption of the tyrannical oppression of The Divine Primacy, and ultimately the freedom of the overworld races from it.

Structure

The order is run by a single figurehead, called The Mastermind. Beneath him exists a ring of 5 High Confidants who carry out their figurehead's objectives. Beneath the Confidants is a variety of cell commanders, called Cloaks, who more often deal directly with the Hands, who are the feet on the ground, the bottom rung, of the organization.   Adjunct to the primary chain of command is a cadre of skilled assassins, referred to as Intercessors. These members are generally kept outside the chain of command, answering only to senior High Confidants. Their role is singular, that of policing and enforcing the Code.   The identities of each member, for obvious reasons, are kept shrouded in as much secrecy as possible. To this end, each member, before initiation, is expected to select for themselves a code name, which is exclusively used in all communications with other members. Breaking this rule, or exposing the true identity of another member regardless of their rank, may carry severe consequences ranging from immediate severance of all contact, to swift and thorough retribution by a team of Intercessors.

History

The foundation and original members of The Order are shrouded in mystery, though it is estimated that the organization took root not long after The Advent. The earliest official records that mention their existence and seek to describe them are from 72 AA. They are depicted as not much more than a clandestine group of bandits and troublemakers that operate from within the city of Grand Veil, and must be squashed should the opportunity present itself.

The Code

All members of the Order are sworn to follow the Code, a constitution of rules established to help protect and guide the organization. Even the Mastermind is subject to the Code, and the consequences of breaking its statutes.   The Code was established upon the creation of the Order, signed by the founding members using their code names at the time. There have been several amendments over the past couple centuries to allow for changing times, but the core has remained the same.   Amending the code requires a lengthy period of ratification, and unanimous agreement between all High Confidants is required. In order to preserve the identities of these High Confidants, the proposition, deliberation, and voting is carried out in a decentralized manner. High Confidants will communicate via coded messages delivered by messengers or dead drops, or through secure magical means when appropriate.

Notable Members

Despite the great lengths to keep identities secret, mortals are fallible. Most of those who have been outed and confirmed members of the Order have been lower-ranking, usually Hands. However, a number of higher-ranking members have been discovered, to varying ends.
