Tektinium

Tektinium is a metallic alloy that has useful magical and mechanical properties. It is associated with the Draksin Republic and their industrialized magic.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Tektinium is a metal. It is always very shiny relative to other metals, and its color is light gray with just the slightest pale-purple tint.

Physical & Chemical Properties

The defining characteristic of tektinium is its enhancement and focus of magic, similar to silver and platinum. However, it is more dense and structurally sound while also being cheap to produce, similar to steel, meaning that it is much more useful in mechanical applications than those metals. However, tektinium is also heavier and less usable with smithing processes, meaning that it is not useful for making weapons or armor.

Origin & Source

Tektinium is made with the combination of elemental iron, elemental carbon, and elemental silver and/or platinum, which must be infused with a burst of arcane magical energy while still in liquid form.

History & Usage

History

After the Republic industrialized their newfound magic, the production of deepiron (a very common mechanical material that shares two elements with tektinium) being done with magic and magical materials led to the discovery of this new type of magic-enhanced steel. It quickly became a commonplace material in Republican industry, used in general machines as other factions use deepiron (and how olden nations used Steel). With the fall of the Republic and the loss of magic, tektinium was no longer useful and fell out of production.

Everyday use

Tektinium was used mainly for the Republic's magical machines. Similar to deepiron, it was mass-produced and manufactured into many core mechanical components and used to flow, store, and enhance magical energy in industrial machines. Though it was not made into armor plating or weaponry, its ability to enhance and focus magic also made it useful to embed in staffs, sew into clothing, and otherwise place into magical items. (Though silver and platinum are more powerful and preferred for this use, tektinium was cheaper.)

Reusability & Recycling

Like other metals, tektinium can be melted down and reused.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Though produced exclusively by the Republic, tektinium was not useful to those who didn't use magic, so its universal market was almost nonexistent and was traded almost entirely inside the Republic.
