The Pillars of Virtue

Within the courtyard of the palace, there stands a circle of six pillars, each carved to represent one of The Virtuous. Clockwise, from the closest to the castle, there is the pillar representing Akras, the God of Honesty; for Idis, the Goddess of Charity; for Celan, the God of Honor; for Brisyn, the Goddess of Loyalty; Thuris, the God of Patience; and, finally, the pillar for Orella, the Goddess of Justice. All are made of different materials - stone, wood, clay, brick, slate, and marble, and all are decorated uniquely, with carvings and paint to best depict the virtue it is meant to represent. At the center of these, the ground is lowered by a couple steps, so that the true height of these obelisks might be appreciated.

Purpose / Function

The Pillars of Virtue were built in the palace courtyard as a symbol of the Elaion monarchy's dedication to The Virtuous. The center of the Pillars can be a place of prayer for those who work and live in the palace.

Architecture

The Pillars are obelisks of different building materials, with each identical in shape and height. They stand roughly 25 feet in height.

History

After the early death of his father, King Elyes the Builder became the second monarch of Elaion. Elyes the Builder focused his pursuits on the building of grand architecture within the kingdom, such as The Sanctuary of Akras. But even before he would begin plans for such a structure, he started with the palace. It was a much more simple building during the time of his father, so Elyes the Builder laid out blueprints to alter its design slightly. This included the construction of the Pillars of Virtue, as he was a convert to the religion, and helped to bring The Virtuous to the kingdom.
