Valethorn
The Valethorn Continent, or as the locals call it "The Dark Continent", is a wretched and twisted land, filled with dreary and hostile inhabitants. The continent itself is marred with dagger-like thickets and life-consuming marshes. To the north lies the Frigid Coast, an unforgiving territory who's winters claim even the most prepared adventurers. The Frigid Coast is a 300 mile stretch of frozen tundra and plains, where only the most fearsome of Valethorn's inhabitants can survive. It's mountainous terrain to the west and glacial rivers make travel through it nearly impossible.
The most hospitable region of Valethorn is the Briarthorn Steppe, an area famous for its vast flat plains and farmland. This region may seem like a veritable paradise compared to the Frigid Coast, yet a darkness lives in this region that even the Frigid Coast can't compete with. During the day the farmlands are bustling with busy workers and the plains are calm with only the occasional bandit or goblin to ruin a perfectly pleasant day. At night, however, you will find all doors barred and only the most unfortunate creature left unsheltered. Horrors lurk in the night and it is said that criminals are simply left outside at night as their punishment most are never seen again and the ones that do survive are so traumatized they never commit another crime.
The eastern region of Valethorn is the Marshlands, this region is a nearly 180 mile long stretch of swamp and death. The area is shrouded in a constant fog making navigation through its murky terrain quite difficult and sometimes impossible. The swamps belong to a myriad of creatures including the undead that roam from the forgotten cemeteries in this region. Though for the citizens of Drehlek this region is home, high atop Mount Kivern in their vast cavernous dwellings at the northern end of the swamps.
The Southern end of Valethorn is a region of war yet also a place of hope. South Steppe Bastion is the symbol of this hope as it is the largest remaining fort in Valethorn after the Elemental Crisis and home to many unfortunate enough to live through the event. The fort is known as the only true safe haven of Valethorn as it has withheld goblinoid assaults for decades and even recently managed to push the vile army back into hiding. The knights and mages that call this city home are the best of the Dark Continent's fighters and scholars and have given the people of this region hope they so sorely use to lack.
The Western region of Valethorn, however, is very different from the others, it is home to the Evernight Forest. The forest is justly named as it engulfs more than 2700 square miles of land in dense vegetation and underbrush, blocking the sunlight and causing the entire area to live in perpetual night. Many adventurers who have entered this forest have never returned, yet some return with unbelievable stories of a kingdom of warriors know as Thatilonix.
