The Sarrinar-Terrnorran Conflict
The Conflict
Prelude
The Terrnorran nation had long been expanding. Its war to drive the elves out of their ancestral home of Sylvara had mostly worked, but the elves had fallen back into a new territory that they were fighting harder to defend. Terrnorr, whose government relied on military expansion to maintain its power, turned its attention northwards. Its army began to approach the Ridgelands.
Of the various disorganized duchies and territories east of the Black Mountains, the richest and most powerful of these was the duchy of Sarrin-Mellara, which had substantial territory, people, wealth, and influence. A significant amount of that wealth depended on easy access to the Ridgelands. So when the Terrnorran army began to approach the Ridgelands, Sarrin-Mellara rallied the territories neighboring the territory. In 476, the alliance fielded an army that met the Terrnoran troops in battle. Later that year, the Defensive Union treaty would be signed, and the conflict had reached its modern form.
Battlefield
Some historians also list Libera as a place of conflict, as the battles between Terrnorr and Libera can be seen as a proxy of the Sarrinar-Terrnorran conflict. Occasionally, there have been maritime skirmishes.
Conditions
There have been numerous truces and two peace treaties over the course of the conflict, but none of them permanent. In the past 60 or so years, the war has slowed. The previous Sarrinar and Terrnorran monarchs had both reduced the number of active troops. However, the current Sarrinar Queen, hoping to end the war and retake the entirety of the Ridgelands, has been making preparations to reawaken the conflict.
