The Tuatha Dé Danann fight Balor and the Fomorians to usurp the kingship from Bres. The Tuatha Dé Danann are victorious thanks to the leadership of newcomer, Lugh.

Bres' leadership leaves much to be desired. Being half Fomorian, Bres forces the Tuatha Dé Danann to work as slaves and pay tribute to the Fomorians. The Tuatha Dé Danann eventually have enough of him. Nuada's arm is restored and seeks to move out from underneath the Fomorian oppression.   Having lost support, Bres flees to his father, Elatha mac Delbaith, and asks for assistance in restoring himself to the kingship. When Elatha refuses, Bres turns to Balor, who agrees to raise an army.   In the meantime, a strange god, Lugh, gains entry to the Tuatha Dé Danann through mastery of many talents, and Nuada gives him command of the army.   The battle is fought between Balor's Fomorians and the Tuatha Dé Danann led by Lugh. Balor kills Nuada with his evil eye that kills all who look upon it. Balor attempts to do the same with Lugh but Balor's eye is shot from his head. The eye instead wrecks havoc on the trailing Fomorian army. Balor is killed, and the battle is won.   Bres is spared on the condition of teaching the Tuatha Dé Danann agriculture.
