Eid
A strain of bacteria specific to the Phena Quadrant, although through advanced technological strategy the bacteria have been contained. Occasional breakouts occur in areas where the disease is uncontained without knowing, or if containment is not secure. Eid forms in a variety of different stages; specifically designed by Viniktarians, Eid is labeled on a scale from 1-6. One of the calling cards of Eid is that the bacteria can begin in any stage based on contact (for example, exposure to a Stage 3 patient will result in the exposed obtaining Eid at Stage 3), although the disease usually begins in Stages 1 and 2. Specific symptoms and what differentiates each stage is noted below.
Eid - Stage 1
The beginning strain of Eid, but considered most dangerous as without testing, the illness can go mostly unnoticed unless the immune system is compromised. Gives way for the bacteria to grow, and manifest into later stages.Symptoms
Minor body aches, minor head aches, stiff joints, minor loss of balance.Eid - Stage 2
While more advanced than the basic stage, Stage 2 Eid is considered non-dangerous by Viniktarian researchers, as long as the bacteria are cured. Stages 1 and 2 are the easiest to cure with antibiotics, but like the previous stage, Stage 2 Eid can go undetected besides minor signs.Symptoms
Minor body aches, drowsiness, head aches or migraines, minor loss of balance.Eid - Stage 3
If Eid reaches this stage, patients are advised to be put under constant medical care, though it is not required by law in the Viniktarian Empire. Antibiotics are shown to work, but only for a small window of time before the bacteria begins to exponentially multiply, leading it to the next stage. During this stage, victims will begin to find day to day tasks difficult, but not impossible. Assistance with movement is often recommended, along with lack of exposure to the outside world.Symptoms
Body aches, drowsiness, constant headaches or migraines, loss of balance, impaired vision.Eid - Stage 4
By this point, Eid has almost completely overridden the immune system, and will render all attempts to suppress it futile. This is when the disease is considered fatal, as all that can stop the illness is to play a waiting game involving the hope that the victim's immune system will recover. 50% of those who contract and stay in Stage 4 will succumb to the disease, while 30% of the remaining patients will move on to Stage 5. At this point, it is required by law for a patient to be under constant care of a professional, and submitted to complete containment.Symptoms
Body aches, extreme exhaustion (patients are often only awake for 4/24 hours), constant migraines and headaches, fever, blurry vision, inability to walk (due to body aches, loss of vision, or loss of balance), trouble digesting, weakness in the respiratory system.Eid - Stages 5 and 6
Once a patient reaches Stage 5 there is a 2% chance of survival, although the deterioration period can last months. Those who have inexplicably recovered from Eid at this stage (as no form of medicine, care, or modification can cure Eid past Stage 4) are permanently blind, or unable to walk (surgery is often required for survivors). White Stage 5 is almost completely irreversible, Stage 6 refers to the highest form of Eid that can end life in a matter of days, if not hours. This stage has only been recorded twice in Viniktarian history, and is assumed to have been wiped out, as Stage 5 cannot become Stage 6. Victims of Stage 6 are often donated (alive or deceased) to research facilities working on cures to Eid.Causes of Death
Because Eid affects many different parts of the body, the manner of death by Eid can come in a variety of ways. The following list common causes of death by Eid: •Overheating •Lung/Respiratory System Collapse •Digestion System Collapse •Stroke •Succumbing to other illnesses due to depression of the Immune SystemNotable Impact
Stage 4 Eid claimed the lives of Quailarian Ankorra Yatiq Amu xi Eveiliria and Quailaria Shei Mei Ooilis xi Eveiliria approximately ~300 years before present day. Both monarchs were in the middle of their lifetimes, and their deaths were considered premature, and thus very shocking to the public. This forced, the then Quailar, Dielkaire Amu A'aabara xi Eveiliria to assume primary control over the Empire just as he and his siblings were leaving adolescence. Political scholars consider this a turning point in history, as Dielkaire's ruling style was much more aggressive compared to his parent's style of compassion and equal play. This marked the sudden exponential expanse of the Empire, as Dielkaire aimed to increase their territory tenfold.Conspiracies
While they are in the minority, part of the population suspects that the death of Ankorra and Shei Mei was no accident. Because the bacteria was only shared between the two individuals, some speculate that this was an assassination attempt for Dielkaire to assume power over the Empire. While most agree that the first born was not consciously involved in the possible assassination, it is hypothesized that many of his political allies carried out the deed in order to change the course of history and presume an aggressive front on the galaxy (in short, return the Empire to its glory days of endless conquering, done last in Ankorra's youth). However, there are still many points that contradict and support this theory...Pros
•The contamination of Eid was exclusive to Ankorra and Shei Mei, and never spread to any of their heirs. •Not only was the disease exclusive, but it began in Stage 4 instead of Stages 1 or 2. This leans towards the bacteria having been grown, and then planted to further ensure their demise. •After their death, many opposing political opponents to Ankorra and Shei Mei's reign gained power under the lead of Dielkaire. •Many predicted that Ankorra was planning to enact a controversial law that would change the order of succession to favor Daimtiva (Orion) over Dielkaire, as it was widely known that the former was his favorite son. Ankorra's death prevented this from happening.Cons
•It is widely agreed that Dielkaire was not involved in a conspiracy, as he initially refused the throne and insisted that Slekierv (Superior) take it instead as he was more level-headed. Eventually Dielkaire followed through with the line of succession after he was allowed to grieve. •Rumor has it that Shei Mei participated in Kuwakk xi Kaluvander (English Translation: Wife/Husband of Death), an infamous tradition in Viniktarian culture that dictates that a healthy spouse will willfully commit suicide/put themselves in harms way if their spouse is on the edge of death. In this case, Shei Mei was rumored to have forced Ankorra to expose herself to Eid through direct contact. Therefore, this may disprove the double-assassination theory and favor infection by chance as only Ankorra may have been initially infected.1 •Because Eid can begin in any stage, some consider that the disease began in Stage 4 to be unimportant, although they will admit that this is abnormal.1Supporters of the assassination theory insist however that Shei Mei did not partake in Kuwakk xi Kaluvander, because it was not a normal custom in Terrarrorian culture, her original birthplace in society. To summarize, this point is up in the air, although it is noted that on separate occasions monarchs Daimtiva, Slekierv, and Trillia have stated that they wouldn't be surprised if she had indeed partaken in the tradition.
