New Janukra
In building New Jakura, the Rhonians transported ruins of their old, ruined city to their new planet, repurposing the ruins to build the city center of New Jakura. The Rhonains has always had a reverence for history, their ancestors, and preserving culture and traditions. However, after years of oppression by the Tolana, their views on their own culture were starting to change as they desired a unique, separate identity.
The Rhonaians felt that the Tolana used their ancestors as an excuse to justify actions that were not justifiable, like keeping the Rhonians as second-class citizens and eventually resorting to nuclear war to decimate the Rhonians. In looking at the bricks of their old city, the stopped building and decided to instead gather clan leaders and discuss what kind of new world they wanted to build.
Consensus was near impossible to reach, but a few ideas floated to the top and were agreed upon. They valued freedom above all else. They wanted individuals to choose their path in life, and have the ability to change their mind without consequence. They wanted to honor and respect their ancestors, but make decisions in the present, for the future. They wanted many voices at the table, and if, at the end of the day, a clan did not want to follow a specific directive, they could choose not to.
Many were concerned about the logistics of working out such details. How would they form one unified voice, and was that even important? In the end, it wasn’t. Respecting individual voices was important above all else. The clan leaders voted to work on building and developing the individual voices, voices that were silenced for too long under the Tolana.
Some of the brick, but not much, was repurposed to build a trading port. Each clan leader took home a brick, as a tool for remembrance and meditation as they thought on the best future for their people.
