Martian Dust Cloud

When the Martians first settled on Arsia Mons, conditions were tough and challenging, new disasters and challenges developing everyday. Scientists were constantly troubleshooting and coming up with unique solutions to the problems as the pressure to expand the settlement grew as conditions on Earth quickly deteriorated.     This first crew of scientists, known throughout Martian folklore and history as the First Martians, are revered for their handling of the crisis. As the next generation of scientists came on board, they took these collaborative values and dedicated themselves and their lives to the betterment of the colony.   Third Gen, as they are referred to, was presented with one of the most challenging natural disaster incidents in the history of Martian settlement, dust storms. As the settlers began to terraform the planet, dust storms increased. The settlement was already accustomed to dealing with the dust storms, and initially thought it would be no different than the dust storms of the first generation. Then a giant dust cloud swept over the dome and the terraformed land, staying for weeks and blocking all access to the sun. The dust storm destroyed the crops, destroyed and damaged much the solar power systems, and clogged any wind generated power. The dome ran on reserved energy. The scientists feared for the life on the colony, not able to predict how long the cloud would say. The petitioned Earth for help, but Earth provided little resources, dealing with the fallout from the widespread famine and disease that was sweeping the planet.   The scientists realized that the life of the planet was in their hands. The first solved for the wind power, adjusting the windmills to filter the dust and thus power the dome, albeit in reserved amounts. Next the developed a weather manipulation system to begin moving the cloud away. It worked, slowly and gradually, until the cloud left and the Martians were left shaken, but alive.
