Indies' Warren

Ancient tunnels hewn into the sharp-rock wall of north Bowl Ridge, where none but the blockheads dare tread without shoes. And even then it's a bad idea. The Indies tribe has taken this vast network as a home in which to raise their biological and adopted young, safe from the belligerence of the Slatespawn and Redspawn.   For obvious reasons, the Warren is the largest and most xeno-friendly of blockhead-majority settlements.

Demographics

Indies are the largest group (about two fifths), but their Warren is something of a minority majority, with assorted non-indie blockheads forming about a third of the population and the rest being different species. All labor within the Warrens is dedicated to maintaining the continued survival of such a diverse group.

Government

The Indies' Warrens are led (mostly mediated) by the Matron. The Matron's duties are mostly to keep families from fighting and provide counsel to those who bother to seek her. Otherwise, families lead themselves. Every able denizen is expected to take up arms against those who would sack the Warrens.

Defences

Being underground, it is relatively easy to seal the Warrens off, for better or for worse. They're not really equipped to outlast a siege, however. The wooden walls and towers outside are mostly in the name of spotting threats and keeping them away long enough for the population to mobilize.

Industry & Trade

The Warrens are in that tricky position where they're soon to run their ancient vaults dry and have to come up with something else to subsist off of. Due to their need for more living space, there's a fledgling mining effort, quarrying decent stone to build up external defenses and seeking any ores to trade with passing caravans.   Kidspost down below also supports them where they can, out of lingering appreciation for their mothers.

Infrastructure

Farms of imported-soil planters growing orphan-fit food line the exits of the Warrens, while rainfall is channeled into reservoirs within by its ancient architecture. As with most settlements of its nature, the inhabitants of the Warrens rely on the existing structure for most of their needs, changing little.

Guilds and Factions

The Warrens' factions are more or less just the largest families, each of which has few goals other than continuing to exist and perhaps existing more than the other families.

History

After the Indigo Mother was devoured by the Slate Mother and the Indies massacred by Slatespawn 79 years before the merfolk arrived, the Indies searched long and hard for somewhere they could start again without being driven out by other tribes or other species. Turns out, the only place that would take them was the inhospitable mountainside. And so they found a network of ruins in which to shelter and began to organize their hunting parties again.

Architecture

Where not just the remnants of ancient Inom society, the Warrens' newer buildings are not much to look at. Blockheads are no fine woodworkers, and neither are their young, adopted or otherwise. Everything's unpainted, with minimal considerations made to aesthetic.

Geography

It's in the face of a rocky mountain. There is no soil up there save for what they hauled up the mountain.

Natural Resources

Rocks, a couple iron veins here and there.
