Bingles Tinkerberry

Bingles Tinkerberry (a.k.a. Bing)

Bingles, or “Bing” for short, hails from the small city of Bellhollow, in the northern nation of Njord. This small city rests at the base of Mount Destiny, a semi-active volcano. Bingles occasionally wondered about the wisdom of settling a city so close to a dangerous volcano. Some locals refer to Bellhollow as “Hellhollow,” in reference to the volcano. Fortunately, the volcano has been quiet for three centuries; it’s mostly the dwarves and elves recall its previous eruption in circa 1302 ME.   All that changed two years ago when Mount Destiny finally erupted. The residents of Bellhollow evacuated but had no place to go in the cold climate. Many either burned to death from the volcano, or froze to death in the wilderness. A few locals were able to get away, Bingles being one of them.   Bingles is an only child, the son of two well-off gnomes, his father Gnorock and his mother Murbibeth. His mother died of natural, though mysterious, causes when Bingles was only ten years old. As a result, Bingles was brought up by his father, a local tinkerer, and collector and seller of rare and eccentric items. His father also dabbled in magic, a hobby that he passed down to Bingles.   Bingles wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps, but he also had a passion for art, specifically painting and writing. He spent many hours... days… years…. learning and mastering magical arts, channeled through his painting and writing.   His passion for his hobby was so strong that when the volcano erupted, he ran back into his house to collect as much of his art supplies and gadgets as possible, narrowly escaping before the house was engulfed in flames. Rather than feeling fortunate for being able to retrieve his stuff, he felt overwhelmed with guilt; rather than running back to get his stuff, he should have run back to make sure his father escaped safely. He never saw his father again; he assumes he died in the flames that consumed the house and the city.   Decimated by the destruction of his home and the only world he knew, he set forth to start a new life. He didn’t know where to exactly but decided to head southwards. He sailed over the channel to Elderwind… rode through plains and hills… over mountains… ending up in the nation of Osira. Along the way, he experienced many encounters, challenges, and adventures. He was fortunate to have made some friends along the way but, as is often the case, friends went down different paths and contact was lost.   His latest adventure was a gig picked up in a small jungle town in southern Osira. He was to be paid 100 gold pieces to retrieve a valuable and symbolic helmet of a local village leader. Unfortunately, this villager is believed to have been caught in a goblin trap and was never seen or heard from again.   Bingles was happy to take on the job, and 100 gold pieces are nothing to laugh at; this should be a cakewalk. Quick money! After all, only a fool would be caught up in a goblin trap.   A few hours into his journey in the jungle, Bingles took a step, heard a click, and suddenly he was in a net hanging upside down from a tree. “What the …! Who put this trap here… only a fool would- argh! This is going to hurt…. “ He freed his hand, twiddled his fingers a bit, uttered a few words and a firebolt shot out from his hand, burning the net open, and causing bingles to drop 10 feet to his freedom.   “Ow! The nerve of some creatures.”   Suddenly, Bingles heard footsteps coming from the jungle. “That must be the sons-a-bitches that ensnared me!” He picked up a rock from the ground and began to paint magical symbols on it, preparing to summon his Eldritch Cannon. He waited for the right moment to fire off the incantation….   Enter the adventuring party...
