The House of Onism

The main religion of the people of Lumarus. Onism worships a pantheon of 5 gods of the Knowledge domain. Their worshipers highly value the search for knowledge and wisdom, the full experience of life, and the uncontrollable power of magic.

Mythology & Lore

The five gods and goddesses of the House of Onism looked upon the world, and found 5 mortals who mirrored themselves. These mortals would be chosen by their deities to serve them in building the realm of Lumarus. Each were instructed to build a home, that which become a part of the House of Onism.
  Mizpah took her weary human and told her to "Build a house and reinforce its foundation." A mantra with which Livia Murner rebuilt and ruled her community.

Thautum took his ambitious dwarf and told him to "Build a house and unlock its doors." A mantra with which Dagran Forgeborn explored the land that his people would claim.

Flaneur took their devoted tiefling and told her to "Build a house and open its windows." A mantra with which Cherish would enlighten all friends and strangers alike.

Ascian took his bright-eyed elf and told him to "Build a house and expand its walls." A mantra with which Syviis Dulieu brought an everlasting supply of resources to his people.

Sonder took her curious halfling and told her to "Build a house and light its hearth" A mantra with which Grimalda Low brightened the spirits of all those who knew her.

With Lumarus now in the hands of capable mortals, its people seemed to have a brighter destiny. One that would hopefully outlast the mysterious tragedies of the past.

Cosmological Views

Rather than being all powerful beings of creation, the five deities of Onism are worshiped as higher beings who govern the laws and powers of the world. They have the ability to change natural law and grant their power and knowledge to the mortals of Iliebon, but do not have the ability to actually create.

Priesthood

The original guides of the faithful were the 5 chosen mortals. They built the House of Onism and their blood continues to stand at the forefront of the faithful. The attention given to them by their deities is how they eventually grew to power; not only religiously but also politically.

Granted Divine Powers

The 5 mortals and their bloodlines are granted a powerful magic that is more potent than the magic of others in this realm. It has been disputed that it does not necessarily have to be those of the bloodline, just whomever holds the seat of power for any of the five houses.

The House of Murner possesses the Whispers of Mizpah; a passive spell that allows them to directly speak to the dead or see echoes of the past.
The House of Forgeborn possesses the Eyes of Thautam; an ability that allows them to feel the energy of treasure, magical or not, from any distance.
The House of Cherish possesses the Fate of Flaneur; an ability that grants the spellcaster to cast a spell at random; chosen by the will of Flaneur.
The House of Dulieu possesses the Mind of Ascian; not so much a spell, but Dulieu members have the ability to remember anything they have seen or heard.
The House of Grimlow possesses the Sanctuary of Sonder; a greater version of the spell "Sanctuary"; those within the area effect are protected and healed.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The highest political powers of the realm of Lumarus are those chosen by the deities. The 5 houses - Murner, Forgeborn, Cherish, Delieu, and Grimlow - are governed by the ideals and beliefs of this religion and govern their own sects of the realm similarly.
