The Vignette Effect

The Vignette Effect is a mental health disease that causes paintings and works of art to be interpreted as demons. In the subjects eyes the paintings not only come to life but become increasingly hostile and devilish. The effect can be so visceral that many that suffer find themselves hurting themselves even sometimes ending their own life to stop the "attack."

Transmission & Vectors

The Vignette Effect is caused when an implant is incorrectly installed in a host. Usually by the metals of it infecting the blood, it can derail their neurological input and senses.

Causes

Most Vignette Effect sufferers are found right after they get a neuro-implant improperly installed. The most famous of which is the NevoKon implant that became exceptionally famous in the underworld.

Symptoms

The symptoms begin as in intense fever that drives the subject to overheat. As the patient begins to lose consciousness they are jolted back awake by the neurological implant and forced to spend the next few hours in a horrible hallucinogenic trance until their heart shuts down from overworking.

Treatment

An emergency surgery can save the patient, but no known homeopathic formulas are recorded.

Prognosis

If not treated and quickly the subject will die, either from self inflicted injuries or from their heart rate becoming too high for the heart to keep up and shutting down.

Sequela

Patients recovering from neuro surgery are always at risk for heart conditions and brain damage.

Affected Groups

Most species excluding Mechan and Descendants can get the Vignette Effect. This includes all ages and sexes too.

Prevention

Getting implants from certified dealers and doing research is the main method of prevention.

History

The Vignette Effect is almost as old as neuro-implants themselves which became mainstream around 2078. The famous musician Keenan Ball died from it after receiving a disease ridden implant in a sketchy club.

Cultural Reception

The disease is a rare one, and because of that it is often times forgotten about. An upswing in search results happened around the Keenan Ball death but since then it has been reduced to occasional odd story in the underworld, hardly newsworthy.
