The Ossus Program

Dahlia Ossus is a human researcher responsible for creating the Ossus operating software. Put plainly, Ossus is able detect threats, neutralize them and write citations. Ossus MK. II is the basis for all the programming for the robotic police of Crestfall. More so than that, Ossus MK. III is the virus infested version of the program which grants robots free-will and making them Descendants.
It was the leaking of this virus that caused a string of murders in the undercity as robots everywhere gained sentience.

Utility

Ossus MK. I is used and sold publicly for private security bots. It is purposely non lethal but still able to detect threats and neutralize them, even able to contact local authorities. This was developed purely for this purpose with to essentially return the money the investors gave them, they made it back tenfold. It has been misused but the software is so advanced that it would take an expert hacker to even scratch the surface of the machine. Ossus MK. II is the more advanced version that was made exclusively for the police bots that patrol the city. It is able to recognize threats and deal with them as nonlethally as possible. It was developed to deal with the rising tides of crime and the peoples reluctance to join the police force. This model of the Ossus Program is quoted as "unhackable" and no known hacks exist for it as of right now. Ossus MK. III was an unreleased version of the program that gave even further capability to the bots it was in, however it had a complicated bug in it that granted whatever bot it was in free-will. Before the bug could be fixed the version was stolen and released to the public causing thousands of robots to gain sentience, becoming the Descendants.

The Ossus Program is one of the most guarded secrets of the council, because if its innerworkings were to get out, the entirety of the city of Crestfall would be at risk.

Complexity

The Ossus Program is exceptionally complex as it has to take in many sentient species behaviors, tones, emotions and illicit a response that is satisfactory for its programming.

Discovery

It was finally unveiled after over 15 years of extensive research and tests from Doctor Ossus and her team. The request came from the council who wished to be able to better police there streets without risking the lives of its officers. Thus the first line of robotic cops or "CopBot" as the slang developed was born.
