Hobgoblins

Hobgoblins are the naturally leading hand of the smaller and much more weak Goblins. Hobgoblins are cunning and excellent tacticians with a knack for war and battle. They are also exceptionally strong compared to the average Human or Elf.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Hobgoblin females are a rarity and as such are hardly ever given names to the outside world. To learn a Hobgoblin females name is to earn a sacred trust.

Masculine names

A Hobgoblin males name is his strength and major identity focus. Torvak, Kraw, Melfis, Hunder, Pax are common Hobgoblin male names.

Unisex names

Males and females in popular Hobgoblin culture share little to no similarities when it comes to names.

Family names

Family names are very important in Hobgoblin culture as the family name determines which clan they are from. Names such as Iskal, Ivric, Kol, Bramik are infamous in Hobgoblin history.

Other names

Among Hobgoblin name schemes, they are also given a title if deemed worthy. Such titles such as: The Iron, The Victus, The Cold Hand and such are among titles that have been given down in the past.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Hobgoblins speak Kalak to their underlings but most are fluent in Basic. It's said that the Hobgoblins from the Southern Reaches speak with a different slang of Kalak but its utterly indistinguishable to someone outside of that language.

Culture and cultural heritage

During the early ages, the Hobgoblins were forced to war by their Orc betters along with their Goblin underlings. After years of servitude they finally revolted and now strive to distance themselves from the chains that once weighed them down. They do still excel in combat, however, and most if not all Hobgoblins spend time in a fighting ring of some sort.

Shared customary codes and values

The only shared values between Hobgoblins is their eagerness to lead and gain infamy through their actions.

Average technological level

Hobgoblins are just as up to date as the rest of the world. Any worth their weight Hobgoblin is good with a sword, however.

Common Etiquette rules

Hobgoblins have little in the way of common etiquette, especially the males. They take what they want, when they want and are damned good at doing it.

Common Dress code

Hobgoblins un-centered culture requires little in the way of unity. Most males wear little clothing to show off their expensive implants or perhaps their underarmor.

Art & Architecture

There are a few Hobgoblin artists that have risen to fame recently on Ilea. One such artist is Klor Urimi, a digital paint artist whose work has been seen as a light into the very society he grew up in.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Hobgoblins have naturally led the Goblins for thousands of years. Not only is this part of their tradition, but also part of their physiological makeup. The Hobgoblins secret a scent that only Goblins can pick up. The scent lowers Goblin inhibitions and makes them more tranquil and ready to follow.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Like most Kalakistic races, the new-born is always marked with a sign of Kalak. Past that, most Hobgoblins do little in the way of worship.

Coming of Age Rites

When a Hobgoblin reaches 16, they are sent out of their homes from their mother into the world. Little to no contact usually occurs with the women past that point, as they are seen as lost souls. Lost souls until they create a clan.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Hobgoblins deaths are tended to by their clan that they have created. Before most die, Hobgoblins write out a will and wishes for their funeral so each differs.

Common Taboos

Hobgoblins live in the taboo. Basically slavers and groomers, the Hobgoblins are some of the most arrested creatures in Crestfall and beyond. Their entire culture lies in the footprint of crime and corruption.

Common Myths and Legends

The most popular purely Hobgoblin legend is that of Horvux the Indomitable. It's said that during the Hobgoblin revolt against the Orcs, Bladesgorm single handedly held off an invasion force whilst his clan and many others escaped. His infamous sword, the Witherbrand is said to have been lost during the battle and never seen again. The sword supposedly possess incredible power in its own right, connecting to its owner in an almost dog-like companionship.

Historical figures

Crev the Red, Unlich Korr, Deth the Cold and Egel Elkirc are the major historical figures for the Hobgoblins. All four were part of the Kalak Horde as it rode into the White Halls and killed the Lich. Since then, a numerous amount of Hobgoblins have risen to popularity worldwide. One such is the ruler of the mountain country, Tath.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Beauty comes through power for the Hobgoblin culture. Whether that be from war or acquisition of resources, Hobgoblins find beauty in the belief that they are better than those below them.

Gender Ideals

Males and females for the most part share the same space when it comes to work. However, because female Hobgoblins are so rare, they hardly ever rise to much fame.

Courtship Ideals

Marriage and dating is a forgotten or never learned theme in Hobgoblin culture. If two willing Hobgoblins meet they mate and the child is mostly taken care of by the mother. However, male Hobgoblins often take control over female Goblins within their clan, even using them as bargaining chips with other males of their species.

Relationship Ideals

Hobgoblins are highly independent from one another, however in order to rise to fame, a Hobgoblin must procure a large amount of Goblin followers. These followers will be their main relationship like connections.

Major organizations

The Iskal Clan, The Kol Clan, The Bramik Clan, and The Ivric Clan are the largest of the Hobgoblin clans. The entirety of the country of Tath is ran by a Kol clansman and a large Hobgoblin presence is there. Beyond that, a few Kalak temples are headed by female Hobgoblins and the Voxkor Corporation is ran by a Hobgoblin by the name of Kevil.
