Ehrwal Disease

Minotaur's are one of the oldest living species on Ilea but when they finally start to deteriorate around the 300 year mark, most fall victim to Ehrwal Disease. It is essentially the rapid disintegration of the brain causing adverse effects throughout the body and nervous systems. It's only found in Minotaurs and a common sign that it is happening is the tips of their horns becoming frayed and brittle.

Transmission & Vectors

It is non-transferable.

Causes

It most commonly occurs in Minotaur's ranging from age 290-310 and is caused by the aging of the brain.

Symptoms

When a Minotaur is caught with Erhwal, he/she can often become frantic randomly, violent, or even deeply depressed. The disease truly hits each individual different. Some suffer from hallucinations involving this strange creature that seems to beckon them into the Void. This being calls itself Erhwal, which is where the disease gets it name.

Treatment

No known treatment exists for Erhwal disease and because the Minotaur population is so small in respect to Elves or Goblins, one might never exist. There are known remedies to calm an estranged Minotaur suffering from Erhwal however. One such remedy is to provoke thoughtless imagery, i.e black voids, a blank piece of paper. Although unclear why this works, it probably has a lot to do with the massive amount of simulation the brain is taking on during an Erhwal outbreak.

Prognosis

Erhwal will eventually kill the Minotaur conflicted with it. Eventually the brain will be cut off from the heart and stop pumping blood. Most Minotaur's kill themselves or go to a clinic to spend their last moments in comfort before it comes to that.

Affected Groups

Male or female Minotaur from the age range of 290 to 310.

Prevention

Although unclear if there are any true preventative tactics, most doctors would agree that living healthy (good diet, exercise, healthy social life) is the best way to combat early onset Ehrwal.

History

Since the dawn of the Minotaur population, Ehrwal has existed. Even in ancient cave drawings it is depicted. It has had a plethora of scientific studies about it and yet no dice on solving it. It seems to be a natural form of entropy for the Mintoaur.

Cultural Reception

Since Minotaur mostly keep to themselves the disease isnt even well known to the general public. Inside the Minotaur culture it's seen as a sad, but respectable time period for each who forgoes it. Living long enough to even contact the disease is an accomplishment in of itself. Few have a problem with putting down those affected as well because of said respect.
