Xerun
Lord (a.k.a. Xerun)
The Lich Lord Xerun was a powerful necromancer who lived in what is now the region of Lefryn around three thousand years ago, towards the end of the Empire of Vizden. Xerun operated out of the Barrow Hills, which seems to have been used as a storage and staging facility. Elven records salvaged from the old empire of Vizden indicate he was active in this region, and turned entire cities into undead thralls for use further south on his unholy crusade. It is unclear who the inhabitants of this region were at this time, but it is assumed that those who had decided to move out of Vizden and live on their own terms would have been the victims.
Raising thousands of undead, Xerun moved southeast and marched his forces over the Windbreakers to attack the Empire of Vizden. The magics still wielded by the empire proved too powerful and Xerun was resisted and ultimately defeated by the elves, although the empire sent large numbers of dwarves and dragonborn to their deaths in the process in an attempt to wear away Xerun's forces through brute strength. This raised deep issues amongst the dwarves and ultimately led to the start of The Dwarven Rebellion.
In the Third Age, Xerun's auxiliary force of several thousand lesser undead which had been left in the Barrow Hills were reanimated when prospectors with the Carter company accidentally broke through when looking for ore. This led to the five day battle of Aemon's Bridge, where the legions of the Kingdom of Tychacia ultimately rode to the rescue.
