Pandemonium

A large group from a parallel dimension set in a time far ahead of ours. Science and technologies are so advanced that it is beyond our current comprehension. In comparison to us, they would be deemed as gods. Having taken to space, they have searched, expanded and conquered. Despite everything, power has always been an issue as advancements were made. Countless planets have been expended, even completely destroyed in search of an infinite source. One section of the group has dedicated their lives to this cause, under project name Infinity. Since they have been unable to find a power source, they focused on another approach. To produce a living, breathing organic power source. To achieve this, a combination of science and 'magic' will be used. A highly concentrated cocktail of drugs is injected into a test subject, altering the brain. It was long ago observed that the human brain has vast potential that we have never been able to tap into, even after thousands of years of evolution. As the brain matter and it's chemistry alters, it allows the subject to tap into that potential. This is 'magic'. Previous attempts have resulted in overwhelming failure. Even in tightly controlled settings, survival rates are around 3%. This was presumed to be due to a variety of causes. Adverse reactions to the drug, shock and heart failure and in worst case scenarios, the body would tear itself to shreds. The speed in which the drug alters the brain leaves the body unable to cope and adjust. Those who did survive were often left insane or suffering from brain damage. None were suitable as a power source and so the project shifted. It was discovered that on the uninhabited planet of Iethea, time moves exceptionally slower than Earth, around 10 years to one on Earth. It was also discovered that the average lifespan was extended due to an unexplainable phenomenon which is predicted to be a result of the scale of time relevance. This provided the perfect test conditions as the body was allowed time to adjust to the drug, resulting in 100% survival rate. The test was to be conducted in a large expanse of land, enclosed on all sides by large and perilous mountain ranges. Inside, existing structures and creatures were allowed to remain. Additional animals and plant species were slowly integrated from our modern day Earth to allow chosen test subjects to survive and acclimatise. Test conditions were then applied, only to activate once suitable candidates were produced, initiating stage 2.
