Rethyri Islands

Located in the Rethyr Crescent, a sleepy tropical island that has become the center of a clash of cultures; a growing city-state founded by Osposi settlers and informed by Cembrean architecture, and peopled by races from across the world having become a trading and trendsetting juggernaut.



"The Dreamwood trees swayed in the still afternoon sun, the susurrus of their lilac-blue leaves unheard as the locomotive belched greasy smoke, chugging past the grove on it's way into town. Chugging past outskirts of squat, wooden tenements and then over the Magus river and into Rethyr. Here megalithic ruins lay; twisted stone arches, titanic pillars and the fallen statuary weathered and eroded by aeons. The track threaded around the time-lost masonry before splitting into two parallel lines, one direction continuing into the city proper while the train took the one descending into a shady valley. A large tunnel bored through the end, allowing the machine to delve further. The way illuminated by lamps of phosphorescent fungus until opening into a spacious cavern, where subterranean dwellings carved into the walls had windows that shone like motes of glitter. Pulling into the crowded station, the scent of sweat, food and spice mingled with the cacophony of engines, ringing, and shouting.

Geography

Ringed by black sand beaches and covered by tropical rain forests and turgid rivers. The Sentinel mountains, three dormant volcanoes, form the rain shadow that keeps the island well watered. Lake N'kai, deep and dark, feeds several of the rivers. Curious hills also dot the countryside

• Dreamwood trees found in faraway Ytan also exist in natural abundance • Invisible viburnum, it's light bending properties used by various animals for shelter in the mountains • Hovering holly often creating small airborne islands of roots and dirt • Krubsom, the migrating scrub bushes that travel from the beaches to the island's small inner desert • Viperfang root/dragonspice, a complex and hot seasoning made from grinding up the root, part of the spice trade
