Heronis

Heronis is a small kingdom bordering the sea, in the southeastern coast of Sercia. It is known for its constant rains, fishing skill, and water management.

Demographics

An all-human establishment, the only other intelligent species that come there are travelers

Government

Heronis is run by a traditional monarchy. King/queen, when the king dies (in special occasions, a queen is the main ruler), next in line inherits the throne. The order of who can inherit the throne goes as so: Spouse, oldest brother all the way down to the youngest brother, Oldest son, oldest daughter, second oldest son, second oldest daughter (down to youngest son/daughter), oldest sister all the way down to the youngest sister.

Defences

Other than the natural geographic defenses, Heronis's only other line of defense is their excellent navy.

Industry & Trade

Most of the jobs in Heronis have to do with seafaring and fishing. i.e. shipbuilding, fishing, navy, patrol, etc. They also have a handful of farmers farther away from the sea, their main supply of non-seafood. The main form of livestock is sheep. There is a large market located in the forum where most of the economic activity occurs. Heronis is also engaged in trade with the desert and steppe colonies of Karini and the kingdom of Aarmiya. Their main import is wood, being that they live by stone cliffs and nowhere near any trees. They mostly export their water resources to the desert colonies, and their stone is exported to Aarmiya.

Infrastructure

Good road system all through the village, though scarcer once outside the city. Excellent sewer system and water management (massive raincatcher bowls gridded throughout the kingdom, aqueducts, and irrigation). Large forum in the center of the village, as well as in the palace. The shipyard is functional and works like a well-oiled machine. It is crucial to Heronians' everyday life (food, protection, recreation, etc.) They also have a secret bridge system through the marshlands.

Assets

Phenomenal geographic location - in between massive, steep cliffs and the ocean, making invasion nearly impossible, since Heronis's navy is very well-developed and always ready for a nautical attack. Even better, beyond the cliffs are deep and dangerous marshlands that would prove a pain to anyone trying to cross them. This would seem like a downside for the kingdom's inhabitants, however, the Heronians have a secret and very complex bridge system unknown to anyone to help them through the swamp.

Architecture

Most structures are made of stone bricks and sandstone. You will rarely see a rounded building in Heronis - only areas of the castle, watchtowers, and the occasional street corner. Dwellings are typically two-floored - though almost always having two separate families living in it. You will generally see dwellings decorated with seashells and coral that washed up on the beach.

Geography

Heronis is in between towering cliffs and the ocean. It is a generally Mediterranean climate with warm weather, though it is almost always raining. There is a huge coral reef just off the coast, causing lots of beautiful seashells to wash up onshore. Just beyond the cliffs, there is a large area of swamp and marshland. In the city, anywhere you look, the view is astonishing.
