Session: Of Warlocks and Aurochs
General Summary
After returning to Theydelin and the funeral of the boy and his father, the morose band set out for the neighboring hamlet on the behest of Heb. They were to fetch them, and guide them to the great tree to the South.
Along the route, they came across a small ruined farmstead. Cautiously they approached, to spy a cloaked figure hunched over an auroch with skull laid open. Raeth came forward alone, announcing himself and asking this strangers intent in his eldritch work. Turning, the man introduced himself as the warlock Balthor, and explained he was tracking a psionic wave that brought him this way.
Their conversation was tense, as Raeth, keeping their number secret, repeatedly blundered in his speech and betrayed his deception. It seemed as if this could turn to outright hostility, but on both ends a dipomatic accord was reached, and Balthor agreed to travel with the band.
A feral griffon came, and seemed to threaten the party, but was bought off by turning over the carcass of the auroch to it.
They traveled on, and while they made camp a pair of orcs came upon them. They were taken aback by the barberous creatures as they descended upon them, as they hadn't a motion of orc kind. Still, as their assault made their intentions clear, the band met them and quickly overwhelmed them. Aggression turned to fear as the giant vulture they traveled with was struck down, sent crashing backwards in a stunning strike of radiant light and crashing thunder. Their moral broken, they were quickly cut down.
And so they rested that night, wondering on how these monsters came to be, and to come upon them. On the early light of the next morning they reached the next hamlet. They found men and women cut down, scattered around the central green. Looking for survivors or supplies, they split up. Entering a house to the south, Malek saw standing propped up a large, cleaned skeleton of a bull of sorts, almost a massive man with a bovine skull. As he approached to inspect how it was held errect it's skeletal arm twitched upward, swing an unnoticed greataxe out, driving Malak back. Barely able to keep pace with the skeletal warrior, he backed out of the hut, taking several incapacitating blows in the process. He collapsed shortly outside the door, and would have been slain, had his compaions not heard his cries. They rushed to his aid, driving back and destroying the undead creature.
A girl and boy, Heloise and gileon, were found in the hamlet, along with two ponies. Balthor lent the boy his blade, and sent the two away with the ponies toward the great tree, then headed out to track the captives ushered off by the orcs. Balthor's pseduodragon went with the kids, as it brought Heloise to higher spirits.
