Autopsy of a Leng'oth

Of demons and men

Time in the dreamlands is convoluted at best. So much so that the very physiology of its creatures is antagonistic to linear time
— The black pharaoh of unknown Kadath

Perliminary Notes

Date: 12/03/2015
Supervising Coroner: Dr. Racquel Cantrell

First Impressions: Subject found unconscious in alley by a paramedic off duty. Subject is wearing robes and turban of yellow fabric. There is a tear in the lower adomen and what seems like a wound underneath, but no blood is present. Possibly the subject has been moved (will direct investigation towards that during autopsy)

The death of gods has brought blindness and oblivion. All there's left is light pretending to be life

From the first tape

  • Dr. Racquel Cantrell, thirteenth of march, 2015. Subject is one point eighty two meters and suffers from some severe hyper-hirsutism. eye lids appear to have been removed although no remnant cut is apparent. Lips have been removed as well equally without markings… whispering man you're creepy…

In my dreams I killed a demon. There I saw him garbbed in the clothes of the moors, but yet I saw his face, like that of a goat, with a grin to freeze the heart of men. He carried chained souls to hell in a ship at all without of the waters of the Douro, which ran far under it. I ran at it and therein pierced him with my spear, and his green eyes flashed at me even as his turban fell to reveal his horns.
Now I'm bound to see his corpse wherever I look. I burn it and it shows still. I quarter it and it ceases not to occur. My subjects do not see it, yet I do. I am cursed by evil, yet Evil have I defeated

    The second tape

  • Dr. Racquel Cantrell, thirteenth of march, 2015. For the record, the first recorder broke and I had to… what's this lump? noises of rustling fabric
I... well this was strange. silence for 10 seconds

  • Subject does not show any external signs of genitals… there is no evidence of scarring from operation, possibly due to hirsutism. Subject presents no other evidence of body modification or wounding… uh? silence for 5 seconds, sounds of footsteps
Subject seems to be dripping a green liquid from his right hand, there is no evidence of wounding. Such was not present during the perliminary investigation. jingling of metal
Comencing Y-incision sound of knocks on the door
They leaped as though they had hooves instead of feet, and seemed to wear a sort of wig or headpiece with small horns. Of other clothing they had none, but most of them were quite furry. […] For the cryptic folk of Leng were of one race with the uncomfortable merchants of the black galleys that traded rubies at Dylath-Leen.

From the security recordings of the Institue of Legal Medicine

  • We brought you the stiff doc. Bring him in boys!

  • Racquel's voice -The what? I'm already working on a...
wheels squeeking on tile - You ok doc? You look like you've seen a corpse dry chuckle
    - Go away, leave!
male sigh - Comedy is dead

Notes on psycho-diagnostic of Dr. Racquel Cantrell, by Dr. Ephraim Waite

The subject appears to be infatuated by a dream delusion of monstruous men fighting in a ship. She has reported a worsening in the intensity of the dreams and an oppressive feeling while awake. Although she has not stated it, her erratic behaviour indicates some amount of paranoia or possibly hallucinatory episodes.
Last interview, she has brought up feelings of dissociation and inhability to recognize the faces of the corpses she is put in charge of. While this is not uncommon in profesional coroners, her case seems to have underlying flavours of dementia.

Additional notes:Surprisingly her symptoms bear some resemblance to some cases of religious hysteria from the beginings of the medieval dark ages. In particular, the way she describes the creatures she sees in the dreams is very close to description of satan in the catholic dogma. This is not surprising given the irish catholic upbringing of the subject.
    - What am I looking at? two laser flashes?
    - Nope. The same laser flash twice in time. We collapsed the waveform of the light packet and managed to separate its time matrix information from the spacial one.
    - I thought you brough me here to report on the corpses.

It is said that a prophet faced the devil in the desert, and there denied his offers. The fiend was latter described in the "dictionnaire infernal" as being a man who was like unto a goat and of whom evil were the words and venom were the gifts.

It is said that the pope St Felix II convinced the Emperor Constantius II that the seat of cristianity should remain a roman one after having a dream of the Archangel Michael in shining armor killing the Devil in sarracene clothes with his spear. Latter on, the tale was interpreted by multiple artists.
    oni
There is a passage of Marco Polo's notes which didn't make it into the main book. In it, he talks of a village whose people lived in fear of the corpse in the river. They described it as having horns and hoves like a goat, but the face of a man. This and accounts alike, he comments, appear to have given rise to many myths of onis and kitsunes across all of Asia. Marco comments that much may have been lost in translation.

This is absolutely fantastic! I especially love the autopsy tapes. The sound effects really bring them to life! I could actually hear the scratching of the tapes in my head! Well done!
