Omn Orthar

Nestled snugly against the southern border of The Teeming Sea, lies an arid continent known as Omn Orthar. It was once a collection of city-states and unclaimed territories before being "unified" under Queen Sayyida Karga in the year 1437, and it now stands as one of the largest contiguous kingdoms in the world.

Geography

Omn Orthar is comprised mostly of dry grasslands, prairies, and deserts. The southern coast boasts sub-tropical climes that attract many settlers, and a number of fishing villages have cropped up there. To the north lies the Gareran desert, a largely unremarkable sandpit known only for its people. A range of mountains know as The Char-tops dominate central Omn Orthar. While they are known for their volcanic nature, there has not been an event in hundreds of years. The soil is jet-black and the mountains bloated with gems and ore. There is a small woodland to the southwest, that to all would seem a most agreeable place. However, it is uninhabited by the humans of Omn Orthar, for fear of their lives. The forest contains an expensive lake that feeds into the ocean to the south.

Fauna & Flora

The plants and animals of Omn Orthar have, by and large, adapted to life with sparse or no moisture. The landscape is dominated by hardy shrubs and cacti, with yellow grasses and the occasional enterprising flower filling in the space. Acacias are common, as are strangler figs that capitalize on their success. Small animals are most at home here, darting about in the underbrush. Common predators include hawks, wolves, and "false deer" that mimic gentle herbivores until their quarry comes too close.   The more tropical areas, while few, are home to a greater diversity in both plants and animals. Even the far north desert is home to giant burrowing lizards that some gentry spend a good bit of coin on for their personal collections. The Char-tops are the only known location of a unique predator known as the Charhound. Hyena-like in build and large in size, these pack animals roam the mountains at night. Somehow, these creatures have developed some strange warlike tendencies. They dig holes in the dark soil, then they regurgitate some molten substance and cover it up. In time, the trap they have laid becomes as potent as a stick of dynamite to the unwary traveler, for contact with air renders it very combustible.

Natural Resources

Omn Orthar is rich in minerals and precious stones, mined up from the tunnels beneath the Char-tops. The wide open prairies make farming very viable, with goats and sheep being standard livestock to maintain. The coasts, especially to the north, nurture a very healthy fishing and whaling industry.
