Joergen Rance

Joergen Rance was born on Earth and left just in time to witness the apocalypse When Earth Went Dark. Joergen was leaving earth to visit his father on Ceres when, at the age of 14, He was one of very few humans to witness Asteroid 132 RQ36 crash into Dehradun India and kill over two billion of humans. He would spend the remainder of his childhood on Ceres with his grieving father. He swore revenge on the Liberauters in his youth, and spent his early years as an adult hunting down and destroying their last outposts in the asteroid belt. He famously destroyed the Liberauters headquarters with nothing except "five space scooters, a crazy addict, and a banana". At the height of his triumph, 26 year old Joergen was once again blindsided his father's mysterious death. He would spend just over a year traveling to Mars, Venus, and finally the still beleaguered Earth. Using a microwave installation on the moon, he was able to punch through the atmosphere and contact the The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem of Rhodes of Malta and of Space. He would discover that his mother had survived the apocalypse, and was convinced to dedicate himself to freeing Earth.

For the next seven years, Joergen traveled the Solar system, defeated the pirate gangs of Mars, treated with the Venusian pleasure tycoons, and formed a deal with the hostile Hermians. He leveraged his old connections among the asteroid miners, and forged new ones with the inhabitants of New Murdo, South Dakota. He pulled together an eclectic mix of people around New Murdo station, and then used the Hermian lasers manned by his Asteroid belt buddies to finally free his fallen family. For five years, Joergen led his ramshackle coalition towards their goal of freeing Earth from its debris cloud. When they finally finished in 201, Joergen was the first spacer to set foot on the newly reclaimed Earth. There he would reunite with his mother, meet his half-siblings, and found the Interplanetary Governance Council. Joergen elected himself chairman of this council, and served as chairman for the first 60 years of its existence, and the last 60 years of his life. Joergen died a natural death and was recognized as a hero of humanity across the Solar System. Every year, the day he landed on Earth is celebrated as 'Redemption day', with parades and presentations across the planet.

Personal history

Joergen grew up on earth in a region known as California. He lived had a rich extended family and highly educated parents. His father, Matthias Rance, was born offworld and managed a lunar mining corporation. There he worked closely with Michael Springsteen, leading a profitable corporation until the Mayor's exile in 153. He lost his corporate position when lunar riots destroyed their headquarters. Matthias payed a brief visit to Earth, married Clara Evans and fathered a child. He would leave before its birth.

Joergen Rance was born three months after his father left Earth to join an asteroid mining coalition, and was raised by schoolteacher with minimal involvement from his mother. Clara lived a life of luxury, supported by her husbands business. She cared very little about Joergen, and saw very little of him. The only fond memories Joergen had about his mother was about the stories she sometimes told.

Joergen grew up excelling in public school, and received several rewards for his studious habits. He was traveling offworld for the first time When Earth Went Dark in 181. He barely escaped the disaster, and his cruise ship narrowly avoided the debris apocalypse that followed. He traveled to Ceres, distraught, only to find his father traumatized and completely incapable of rational thought. From the age of fourteen onwards, Joergen would manage his father's assets, building the coalition into a trading empire. Without access to Earth, materials such as food, oxygen, nitrogen or high-quality electronics became extremely rare. The Trans-belt Mining co. spread across Ceres and the rest of the belt, uniting the lesser mining organization with its relatively abundant supply of food and oxygen. Joergen spent years hunting down and destroying the last of the Liberauters responsible for the Darkness of Earth, and eventually destroyed their main station of Vesta using "five space scooters, a crazy addict, and a banana". Joergen's exploits spread throughout the free Solar System as his influence spread.

He would eventually pull an alliance of belt miners, Hermians, and the few habitats still alive around earth together to free the planet from its debris induced doom. He would then reunite with his mother and meet his half-siblings, as she had remarried during the apocalypse. Joergen himself found an opportunity to marry, and spent a large amount of his time with his wife Jordan, but had no children. He died in 261, after 39 years of marriage.
