Drop 4 - The B Team

Mission Brief
We're training a group of MechWarriors to act as a local defense force, and we'd like you to assist in their training. There's a decommissioned local government base that we need to take ownership of. As it's undefended, this is a perfect opportunity for our trainees to practice operating as a team in a low-risk environment. We need you to send along a single experienced MechWarrior to keep an eye on them and model good behavior for them.     Drop Deck
Pilot Mech
KooKoo Vulcan VL-2T
Guano NPC Commando COM-2D
Stubble NPC Panther PNT-9R
Pontoon NPC Urbanmech UM-R60
Action Report
One, this was not a real mission, it never happened, and I wasn't there. Two, the tech who suggested that this was a 'Milk Run' cost me a weeks pay in fines. Go ahead JACKASSES, say something else clever. I like Ramen...   [Edit - the commander wouldn't accept the original write up]   I chose an LZ that was as far south of the base as i could get. I've got plenty of careful and only 1 life so I spend the one and hold onto the other.   I took point in the Vulcan. Mostly because I didn't trust the yokels but also because I wanted a chance to try out the new PPC Yang had installed. I'd never fired one and it's weight felt good in the Vulcan's left torso.   We took our sweet time and approached the base slowly - three of us covering the mover just like they do in the holo-vids. Good thing too. The base's defenses were live and two LRM turrets locked onto me the first time I broke cover and crossed their line of sight. Damage was light and I was able to pull back into full cover before they could get off a second volley.   From here we split up and maneuvered to just outside LoS. I planned our rush so that we took out 2 of the 3 turrets in one volley. Just before I called for the attack Sumire - our dropship pilot -  reported two engine signatures powering up near us. Guano panicked and attacked the Turret nearest him before Pontoon was in place.   Then all hell broke loose. The turrets fired multiple lasers and a gigantic volley of LRMs. At least we'd fight in the shade...   While the yokels were engaged with the two eastern turrets sensors picked up the reinforcements - a Javelin and a Wasp moving in from the east.   The yokels engaged the new threats while I finished off the last turret. Firing my jump jets I landed on the eastern side of the base just as the Javelin drew a bead on Pontoon in the Urbanmech. Ignoring the heat warnings I fired the PPC and tore off the Javelin's left arm.    Then something exploded in my mech.   Heat sirens screaming I watched as the new paint on my PPC caught fire and flames danced across the Vulcan's arm. Fighting the now sluggish controls I fought to shunt the heat away from the ammo bins. The super heated air around my mech blocked my view of the battle. I could hear SRMs and the crack of an AC10.   FUCK, the yokels are gonna die!   Then over my comms, "Commander this is Guano, I'm reporting that both enemy mechs are down. I repeat both enemy mechs are down. Do you copy?"   [silence]   Hacking on the acrid smoke from my cockpit I said, "I copy. Sumire... come and get us."   Fucking yokels...     Mission results
