Exo Forester

"I intend to find out exactly what lies beyond The Great Briar... and I have a feeling that there's a tidy profit to be made with that kind of knowledge."

Exo Foresters are adventurers. They are the restless, the ones stricken with wanderlust, and pioneers. Foresters NEED to know what lies beyond the borders of the Great Briar, and long to explore, expand, and exploit. Some of them even desire to exterminate, but the vast majority of Foresters believe that we must learn to live in harmony with Exos. Quite few even follow The Natural Way.   As a profession, Foresters earn their place in Flatlands society by scavenging valuable materials from Exo Forests, or performing special requests from citizens, elders, or other respected persons of note. One Forester may sell their field journal notes, another may sell Exo Shards, and yet another may sell maps.   Player Characters are almost certainly Foresters if they're from the Flatlands, whether experienced or aspiring. Some Empire citizens either become actual Foresters by abandoning their homeland and becoming Strays, or perform duties very similar to a Forester.. even though this term if frowned upon in Imperial culture.

Career

Qualifications

A willingness to expose yourself to danger, and ability to handle yourself under stress. Martial skill is highly desirable and tends to extend the life of any Forester, it's very rare to find a long lived Forester who has no combat skill at all.

Payment & Reimbursement

Standard payment and rewards for Flatlands Foresters:
  • [*] Local Currency [*] Priority access to village artisans, and discounts [*] A sense of accomplishment for furthering Exo understanding (XP?) [*] Especially successful Foresters may be rewarded with titles, lands, or other perks by elders.

Other Benefits

Flatlanders generally admire, respect, and fawn over Foresters. Any one village rarely supports more than 5-10 Foresters at any one time, so getting a few delves under your belt will bestow local celebrity status. Especially successful Foresters, those who discovered many new species or published detailed memoirs or maps, will be elevated to legendary status among various Flatlander tribes.
Legality
Generally legal and, in fact, supported by the community in Flatland Tribes.   Illegal in the Empire unless sanctioned by the ruling class. Extracting materials from any part of an Exo Forest is considered poaching to the Empire. (This includes ALL Flatlands Delving... but is virtually never enforced. This would be considered an invasion.)
