Hrongo

Hrongo is a land steeped in myth and superstition. Covered in marshes, rivers, lakes, and other various wetlands, it is difficult for foreigners to navigate. The Marsh-Walkers, the lizardfolk that call the land home, have geared their society and culture around the boggy land. Their homes are fluid, designed to rise and fall with the water level. Roads float to minimize impact with the terrain. Wood is treated to resist mold and fungi.   Travel across Hrongo can be difficult. The Marsh-Walkers have many sacred sites that forbid outsiders from accessing without an escort. Aside from that, the land can be dangerous by way of deep bogs, noxious gases, and masses of blood-sucking insects that carry dangerous diseases. While it is possible to navigate the continent without a guide, it is better to ingratiate yourself to the Marsh-Walkers and get their help.   One of the few points of interest on Hrongo is Mount Gih'Tan, the Mad Mountain, that few explorers return from. Those that do are forever plagued by nightmares, unable to explain what they saw in the heights far above the marshes. The Marsh-Walkers do not go there, fearing whatever supernatural force resides in the stone. Stories of those that went to seek their destiny upon that mountain have travelled to the mainland, wreathed in tales of madness, cannibalism, and death. The Marsh-Walkers beg outsiders to avoid the area, but do not actively attempt to stop them.   The Isle of Vth is a secondary point of interest. Situated in the middle of a massive lake, Vth is a sacred site to the Marsh-Walkers. No outsider is permitted onto the island without an escort and those that protect the area will kill trespassers. It is unclear what happens to the bodies of those slain trying to reach the sacred site without an escort, but those with connections to outsiders whisper about blood rituals and offerings to the ancient spirits of the land. Those that are allowed on the island do not write about what they have seen, compelled by an outside force to refrain from doing so. They do speak of rings of stone, shadowy creatures wearing the hides of people, and ancient magic that would chill the blood of anyone unprepared for the grisly sight.
