The Cataclysm is often referred to as 'The Day the World Died'. It is the day the Sword of the Gods was completed, the Great Dragon was destroyed, and the day the world of Edri was broken beyond repair. The details of the Sword of the God's creation has been a secret closely guarded by the Council of the Enlightened, and any involved in it's creation. But whispers spread across the remaining population of Edri that the Gods themselves were captured and placed inside of the sword, that their death, gave the people life. The secrets may never be revealed, but what is known is that Prince Blaze Val'Darian of Ember wielded the sword after his father was killed by the Great Dragon, striking the final death blow through the dragons heart. Which caused the dragon, Price Blaze, and the sword to fall from the ramparts of the Council Tower. Prince Blaze himself was saved by the magic of Councillor Alvred Cendreth, the Dragon to fall to it's death, and the Sword of the Gods to pierce the stone pavement below. It is uncertain whether the dragon's death, or the sword piercing the world caused the events that would eventually destroy the world of Edri, but Prince Blaze has been known to blame himself over the events that led to the destruction of the old world of Edri. Many scholars consider the dragon to be the cause, but without all of the details, it will be a mystery to the ages.
