The Llanfech Forest

It was easy to tell where Llanfech's influence overtook that of the Skadi plains. Tall grasses and ferns began to encroach of the dry yellow grasslands of Skadi, their lush, vibrant greens cutting across the horizon, the welcoming blanket of nature to all Elven kind and those that held close to the natural world.   Few brave birds flitted out over the planes, but always seem to return to the safety of the forest, small herds of grazing animals could be seen moving from the grasslands back into the cover of the thick trunks of the mighty redwoods that stood guard over the portal to this new world.   As Saith Valen entered the Llanfetch forest, he knew instantly that there were eyes on him, not unkind ones, but the Elves of the forest were not in the habit of allowing their realm to be encroached upon by enemies without sufficient response. Saith had visited many times in the past, and was known as a friend of Princess Aerendyl, the now matriarch of the city of Llanwrystw.   He carefully picked his way along the hunter's trails rather than the main thoroughfare through the forest. It was more tranquil this way, and though the Elves didn't often have visitors, there was still trade moving along the main routes. Elvenkind, Dwarves, Humans who dared the Skadi Planes to trade the Elves for their superlative wooden wares, gems and ores.   The canopy and brush above and surrounding Saith teemed with life, the sound of birds bursting from bushes, the cracking of branches under the weight of acrobatic mammals, blossom dancing to the floor and the scent of damp earth dusted with pollen. This was one place Saith didn't mind taking his time to traverse.

Geography

The Llanfech forest sits patient and vast at the foot of the [url=]Scarstone Peaks it encroaches only on the lower extremities of the mountain range and tails off in it's lushness as it hugs the Skadii planes.   A few rivers run through the forest itself and serve the smaller elven settlements found throughout the lush dense foliage.

Fauna & Flora

This particular forest boasts lush greenery year round even though it is not a coniferous forest. It is said it is kept green even in the harsh winter months through the toils of the best druids and sorcerers from the Elven capital of the Thousand Spires.   Boasting the tallest redwoods in all of Hertrend, the floor is littered with ferns and tall grasses. Due to the magic used to maintain the lush vegetation year round, there's never an abundance of leaf coverage though in places the cycle of rebirth occurs and seed pods or flying seeds can be seen floating around in the summer sunlight as it dapples through the ample canopies.

Natural Resources

Llanfech's main export comes in the form of elven crafted weaponry such as bows and staves created from the wood of their well-tended Nurseries, where some of the rarest trees are grown.   Due to the city of Llanwrystw sitting so close to the Scarstone peaks, the Elves of the Llanfech also have access to the ample ores & gems that can be mined from the comfort of their own city.
