Hero Concept Guide

This is a guide that is meant to assist you in character creation. It is not fully representative of everything that can be done within the character creation system.

Origins

What is the origin of this hero's powers? How did they first acquire them? Their powers need not all come from the same origin. There are many heroes who supplement more exotic abilities with skill or technological based powers. These categories are only meant to serve as creative inspiration.

Biological

Whether by a genetic mutation, radical experimentation, or just being wildly gifted at birth, this hero was born with their amazing abilities.

Cosmic

This hero is not of the Earth and their gifts may not be at all unusual for their cosmic origin.

Mystical

Some may choose not to believe in magic or try to explain it away with natural science, but this hero's powers are a conduit of mystic energy.

Skill

This hero came by their powers honestly, through rigorous study or brutal training. There are limits to the kinds of powers that can come from this origin.

Technological

The powers this hero possesses actually originate from technological devices that were built either by the hero or others.

Archetypes

Here are listed several basic profiles for different classes or "archetypes" of supers. As with origins, this is not an exhaustive list, nor is it restrictive. It is only meant to serve as a guide to further inspiration.

Battlesuit

A hero who wears a suit of power armor that grants them their powers. They might be a genius inventor who built the suit themselves, or they might have received their suit from the military, or they might have found it by chance.

Construct

A type of hero who appears to be living, but has an unliving or inorganic physical and mental makeup. They could be a robotic construct, a magical golem, or an undead being.

Crime Fighter

An otherwise normal person who has trained to be physically and mentally capable of being a hero. Different crime fighters focus on combat, detective work, or on the design and use of gadgets.

Duplicator

This type of hero's signature ability is the ability to create copies of themselves. They might combine this power with another suite of abilities like those of the energy controller, martial artist, or powerhouse (or others).

Elemental

This hero is a being composed of a pure element, whether they being a sentient incarnation of that element or a living being who has been transformed into it.

Energy Controller

This hero is able to control a particular form of energy such as fire, electricity, or magnetism.

Gadgeteer

An inventor who uses tools and gadgets of their own design to fight crime.

Healer

This hero specializes in powers that heal themselves and/or others.

Martial Artist

A fighter that has honed their skills in unarmed combat to the point of being able to stand up to superpowered enemies. They gained their abilities either through mystical endowment or through sheer hard training.

Mimic

A mimic copies the traits of others to use as their own.

Mystic

A master of the magical arts can make for a very potent force for good. The mystic might be a host for a supernatural entity that gives them power or they might have studied nearly forgotten lore themselves.

Nullifier

This rather unusual type of hero has powers that are focused on robbing other supers of their powers. They might have a sort of power vampirism that temporarily "steals" superpowers from others, or they might just throw off a field of powers interference.

Paragon

What most people think of first when they think of superheroes. Paragons are strong, fast, tough, and often have the ability to fly. They might be enhanced humans, powerful aliens, or vessels for godly power.

Powerhouse

The powerhouse is the strongest and toughest there is and as a hero they are a no frills beat 'em up smasher. They might have been transformed by a powerful experiment or even be made of living stone or rock.

Psychic

This hero has powerful mental gifts. They might be a generalist, or they could specialize in telepathy, telekinesis, ESP, or even combine their posychic powers with stealth and combat skills to be a sort of psionic ninja.

Shapeshifter

Many heroes can change their shape in one way or another as their principle ability. They might be able to take on any shape relative in size to themselves or they might be able to transform entirely such as into the form of mighty animals.

Size-Changer

Some heroes can grow or shrink (or both!) or otherwise change their density seemingly at will.

Sneak

This hero's abilities are centered around being as stealthy as possible. Whether they are simply very gifted at the art of stealth, or they are able to turn completely or partially invisible or insubstantial.

Speedster

These heroes are fast. So fast that they bend and sometimes break the laws of physics with their blinding speed. Most are runners, but some speedsters can fly or even teleport.

Stretcher

These heroes can stretch and elongate their bodies to have greater effectiveness in combat and an almost limitless amount of utility.

Summoner

Summoner type heroes bring creatures or minions seemingly from nowhere to assist them in battle. These summoned entities (or single entity) might be animals, robots, ghosts, or anything else.

Supernatural Creature

You are a creature of myth or legend, such as a demon, vampire, or werewolf, with all of the powers that come along with that identity.

Totem

Many heroes have powers that are closely tied to the traits of an animal. That animal might be an arthropod, an avian, a canine, feline, pachyderm, reptile, or many others.

Warrior

Warrior type heroes are skilled fighters with enhanced physical capabilities to combat superpowered foes. They are either altered human fighters or otherworldly beings.

Weapon Master

This hero has dedicated themselves to perfecting the use of a signature weapon which, properly modified, allows them to take on the mantle of superhero. Their weapon might be archaic like a bow and arrow, sword, nunchaku, or even a shield, or they might have elevated their mastery of the gun to that of an art form.

Weather Controller

A weather controller has control over the elements of air, water, cold, and electricity, and combines those powers into an impressive array of abilities.

Roll me up a Teleporter who specializes in time-delayed explosives. It'll be super fun!

Perfect (if a bit cringy) name for that hero: Bombs Away
