Kharega

Written by Blakkfox

Kharega (translated by the Raarhiid: The Mirage) is an ancient city that has been long abandoned by their inhabitants for centuries. Remnants of their great legacy still stand tall, despite the mysterious destruction of much of their walls and architecture. Now these ruins are haunted by strange and powerful creatures who seem to be protecting it from outsiders. Not much is known about the ruins due to this, though it is suspected that the native aboriginal peoples are granted access.

Demographics

The Seer, Matriarch and Speaker were the highest in their society, and were treated as royalty. The rest were treated with respect generally, but lived in modesty. Raarhiid beliefs state that any in a tribe is considered family, and as such even those without work or health were treated well. There was no homelessness or poverty.

Government

Their government consists of a caste system, and are heavily based around the elemental energies each faction possesses.

Giant walls surrounded the city, scouting towers found throughout the desert. Raised bridges at the entrances of the city. Blue osu residue has been found in ancient lanterns that peppered the city.

    Industry & Trade

Kharega was the center of trade throughout the island, and therefore saw all the best materials and goods. Their biggest industry was mining various metals and precious gems. While trade brought various foods, textiles, pottery, and jewelry, the Kharegans were most known for their armor, tools, weapons and their massive architecture.

    Guilds and Factions

The various factions were simple in concept- they were all based upon the element of their members. Each elemental group would have a place in the caste system, and their position in power/wealth would rise or fall based on shifts in power.

    History

Kharega began as a small town, growing quickly due to its location being ideal for trade between the north and south. As it grew, factions formed, followed quickly by a caste system. Small civil wars occasionally broke out between the factions in an effort to gain power. Not much else is known, due to broken or missing historical records recovered from the ruins, as well as the inability to access them. Many of attempted to enter the dead city, though not many have returned alive.

    Architecture

Kharega is known most for their architecture, which consist of heavy stone for fortifications, official buildings and homes for the wealthy. Adobe is used for the lower classes in their homes and stores. The adobe was made from a mix of clay and earth that shone brilliantly red and orange. The stone was various shades, with the more common and stronger stones like granite and low grade limestone was used for the walls around the city, and the rarer stones such as sandstone, fine limestone and alabaster were used by the wealthy and the government for their buildings.

    Geography

Kharega is surrounded by desert, dunes, arid hills and small mountains. To the west lays Nerine Harbor and the ocean, where they developed several ports.
