Ulaan

Ulaan is the most north western province of Hungola, the capital being of the same name as the region is one of Hungolas few coastal cities, the city itself is built in a huge natural harbor protecting the citys harbor from the fierce seas and storms of the western coast. The region is almost entirely hilly grasslands with little to no forests. Ulaan borders the country of Grecia to the North. Skirmishes happen between the Grecian and Hungolan forces along the border.

Geography

The west coast of Ulaan has a few rocky white cliffs for a few miles that continue on through the border from Ghakai, then the coast changes from the rough cliffs to sand beaches and plentiful amounts of coves and small natural harbors. The inner part of Ulaan encomases the Azargh mountains where pinewood trees can be found along the base of the mountains.

Fauna & Flora

There is not much in the terms of wildlife in Ulaans grasslands except for wild herds of deer and wolves with a rather large amount of Giant Badgers that roam these grasslands as well at night time. Of course wild Hungolan horses can be found throughout those lands. The yellow eyes penguins can be found along Ulaans coast line along with seals, just off the coast Great Whiles and Orcas can be spotted hunting the seals and penguins along with the regions plentiful supply of fishes.
One of the more interesting species along Ulaans coast is its small flightless bird the gorthu, it lives on the coast is bright yellow in colour with a black beak and flocks of them can be found wandering the beaches where the seals and penguins live. The bird is largely left alone by hunters as they are known to be highly poisonous to Orcs and Half Orcs if ingested. They build their nests in the sand dunes of the beaches using a mixture of long grass and shells, the long grass they manage to weave into the shape of a nest and the shells are used as a decoration to attract a mate. If its eggs are threatened the gorthu will let out a piercing scream and the whole flock will turn on the creature threatening the eggs in an instant often leading in the creatures ultimate demise.

Natural Resources

Ulaans natural harbors and coves are a brilliant place for fishing. The mountains of the region provide a source of Silver and Iron. The whales off the coast are a great supply of oil for the region which have only started being hunted for this purpose in the past 15 years. Illegal Dragon Turtle meat can be found in the city of Ulaan if you know where to look.
