Octant 3: The Holy

The third Octant within Helstav, this is where the temples and clergymen reside. Helstav is a place populated by people of all walks of life, with many different beliefs. Within the Holy Octant, the temples for all the different religions are found here. It is a place often visited by those from the other districts, people come frequently to pay their respects to their corresponding Deity.   There are a fair few monasteries and convents in the Holy Octant. Many faiths have a cemetary attached to their holy building.

Demographics

30% Dwarves, 30% Elves, 20% Humans, 10% other. Curiously enough, some Firbolgs have taken up residence in the Holy Octant, though their isolationist tendencies tend to put a barrier between them and the rest of the races.

Government

The governing body of the Holy Octant is the Holy Synod. It's comprised of a council of the major religions in Helstav, appointed for life. There are 27 seats, with 7 of them at the moment belonging to representatives of the Forgotten Realms deities, 3 of them belonging to followers of Moradin and Corellon each, 4 belonging to the followers of the Greek and Roman gods, 1 to a representative of the Shogun, 2 belongong to the followers of the Norse gods, 3 belonging to followers of the Egyptian gods, and 4 seats being occupied at the moment by followers of other religions. The Synod is a stereotypical governing body in terms of how long it takes to discuss and put into place changes, to the point where there is a Helstav idiom saying "the Synod will decide before you do" describing an indecisive person.

Ruler

The Holy Octant is currently being led by the Human Florian Helias, who is a follower of the peace goddess Eldath.

Infrastructure

The Holy Octant is divided by three roads meeting in the middle, where the Holy Willow grows. One section is filled with Dwarven temples and buildings, another is filled with Elven architecture, and the third and largest is filled with all sorts of architecture from various religions in Heliodarna.

Guilds and Factions

There are all sorts of religions in Helstav, including people following pantheons from Forgotten Realms (the majority of Heliodarna), Norse (the Shieldlands), Greek (Grecia), Greek Titans (Marble Coast), Egyptian (Opatra), Maori (Hungola), Seldarine (Elves), Dark Seldarine (Drows & dark Elves), Moradinsammen (Dwarves), Draconic (Dragonborn), and Shogun (Usilia), who both live in symbiosis, helping each other, but also compete for worshippers in Helstav.   Recently, the Followers of the Unnamed, from Usilia have opened a small temple in Helstav.   The main temples are those of Moradin, Corellon, and the Forgotten Realms (mainly Eldath), with Eldath being followed the most devoutly. Eldath has a fountain dedicated to herself as well.

History

The Holy Octant was originally created with the purpose of providing people a place to pray, and to create a place for a more peaceful discussion about religions between Dwarves and Elves. Over time, it has become a place of prayer for many religions.   As religions grow, so religions also wither and die. There are a fair few buildings that have been abandoned due to a lack of worship of a deity. If such a building has been abandoned, its ownership is reverted to the Synod, who in turn grants ownership (in return for a handsome fee) to a new sect or religion that might want it.

Architecture

Of the 8 Octants, The Holy is kept in the most pristine and clean of them. In respect to the gods, the Octant is kept and tended to with a lot of attention. The different temples are built and styled in accordance with the related god. There are four major structures of interest within the Holy: The Temple of Moradin, built from a beautiful marbled stone that gleams brightly in the sun, the Temple of Corellon, which is essentially a series of trees that habe come up from the ground and wrapped around each other to form a building, the Fountain of Eldath, the goddess of peace that many within Helstav worship. Finally, there is the Holy Willow, a large willow tree in the centre of the Octant that overlooks the entire Octant.   The building style is an amalgamation of different cultures and ways of creating buildings, from Dwarven practicality and Elven elaborate ways to simple buildings created by the followers of the Maori.
