Metrus
Within the depths of Metrus, the dominant species are the hardy Mountain Dwarves. When the Metrusians were forced underground, the Mountain Dwarves were quickest to adapt as they already had whole communities beneath the surface. The Mountain Dwarves maintain their high status through their expertise on the mining trade which keeps Metrus ticking and trading.
The secondary species within Metrus are the adaptable humans that were able to make it underground and survive long enough to make settlements amongst the dwarves. These humans have a stronger constitution than their surface living brothers. These humans have been fully integrated in the dwarven culture and have become adept miners and strong drinkers.
The Metrusians expanded their underground kingdom, creating more tunnels for travel and more settlements beneath their once great nation. When doing this, they ran into the Grey Dwarves, Duergar who had a small city of their own deeper than the mountain dwarves. These dwarves were inititally hostile but have opened trading with the others, some have even joined the Metrusians in their communist society.
Geography
Metrus is essentially an unlovable toxic wasteland on the surface. Ruins and dead forests lay amidst the broken ground, toxic lakes and deadly air.
Metrusians learned to adapt to life underground, they have formed countless tunnels connected by a quite clever cart and track system.
Fauna & Flora
Most fauna and flora has perished on the surface, though horrid creatures still live, aberrations and monstrosities unmoved by the deathly gas.
Underground are many strange flora, fungus and lichen that have various properties making them ideal for underground growth.
The creatures found in Metrus include many of those found in the rest of the underdark, the predatory Bullettes, the grotesque Fomorians and the insectoid Andregas.
Natural Resources
Metrus has very deep mines where they attain various metals & resources including:
- The most common source of heat in Metrus comes from a mineral known as Sphxkôl, or Kôl to many. Mined from the city of Oylovka in the North West. Jet black in colour with glowing purple veins allowing it to be easily found and identified within the dark caverns, has special properties that many believe to be a side effect from the cataclysm that occured above. When burned this material lasts longer than other sources of heat, and due to it's abundance has been very useful for all of Metrus since it's discovery.
