College of the Silver Swords

Located in the northwestern quadrant of Rose Sector, with a second, smaller campus in southwestern Vine Sector,

Architecture

Much of the building’s structure is composed of the same cream-coloured stone that was originally brought up from the soil to create it, while the remainder is mostly composed of the pale, straight-grained wood common in the region. As with most official Rosan buildings, the roof is tiled to keep out the elements. Much of the building’s architecture follows a more airy, natural style, with the large, arching windows meshing well with the naturally-occurring darker and lighter swirls within the stone. Plants grow abnormally easily and quickly both within and around the building, causing the outer walls to be quickly overgrown with ivy and the sector’s distinctive roses, but the windows are always kept clear and, if anything, the thin layer of green moss on the dark green roof tiles seems to hold them together instead of breaking them down.

History

Although this fact is not widely known, the building that would eventually become known as the College of Silver Swords was actually built as part of a bet between two powerful Vættir. Most of the details of the bet have been lost to time, but as the story goes, the Mother and the Healer started a friendly competition to prove their strength and ultimately, the Healer lost. As a result, she caused the smooth cream-coloured stone that would eventually become the building’s foundation to rise from the ground and petitioned a group of lesser Vættir, as well as mortal builders, to help her complete the construction of the continent’s first and greatest medical university. Even if she is seldom present herself, the Vætte known as the Healer, Eir, has become the building’s patron, and the symbol of her weapon has served as a sign of healing and mercy ever since.
