Olokand Locations
1. CAER OLOKAND
The traditional holding of Clan Elendsa, the castle contains apartments for the sheriff and his underlings as well as royal apartments.
The king and his court spend about four months a year here, and the castle is also used to hold important prisoners whose internment at other locations may lead to trouble. Built by King Fierth in 384, the castle walls average 25’ in height, while the much older Sanric Tower rises 70’ above ground.

2. TENTRU MANOR
Tentru is held by Sir Maldan Harabor, the Sheriff of Meselyne. Sir Maldan spends about one third of his time here, the rest at Caer Olokand.
Administration of the manor and other estates are left mostly to his wife, Areta Alkinil. Guests of the sheriff often prefer to stay in the comfort of Tentru Manor than in the ancient castle.
3. VILLAGE OF TENTRU
Part of Tentru Manor. This prosperous manor has more fields to the east, off the map. It supplies much of the cereals, dairy products, and meat consumed by Olokand townsfolk. A few fishing families live in a small hamlet one quarter league south along the Heru Road.
4. ELENDSA BRIDGE
This bridge dates from 562 when the existing stone piers were constructed.
Standard tolls are charged except they double during the Royal Chelebin Tournament. The Mesel Gate is manned by two guards and is closed between dusk and dawn.
When the gate is closed, it is possible to walk into town along a narrow footpath between the curtain wall and the steep river bank. A river turtle called ‘Uncle Snaps’ has lived under the bridge for as long as anyone can remember.
5. NORTH COMMON
This large common extends off the map westwards and is used as a campground each spring for northern caravans. The common is also the venue for the Royal Chelebin Tournament of Chivalry, held each year in the second tenday of Larane.
6. MYCEPRIS SQUARE
The biggest market in the region is open daily from noon to dusk, except on holidays.
7. BONDING HOUSE
Managed by Mandan of Finar, a petty bureaucrat from the castle, and normally guarded by two soldiers of the castle garrison when in use. When the Fur Road caravan is in town, the guard is doubled.

Haselun’s inn caters to travellers, merchants, and wealthy locals. His rooms are small but well furnished.

A warehouse and hostel. The warehouse stores lumber from saw pits along the Hemurin Trail south of Olokand. Some timber is felled near Bazine and floated downriver to Olokand. The shipwright [29] orders special timbers from the guild whenever he builds a vessel.

There has been a sudden increase in demand for his skills and he is currently seeking to hire another master and a journeyman. He has cultivated a friendship with the new bonded mason for Caer Olokand knowing there is more work needed there than the new mason can handle.
17. CLOTHIER (Aledro of Tirinas)

Aledro buys spun wool from local manors to weave rough buckram. Although of sturdy appearance, his clothes wear quickly. He has mastered one red dye and uses it a lot because his other dyes often run when wet. His cloth is popular for its price, not its quality.

A warehouse and hostel. The Guild of Miners is powerful in Olokand, with several profitable mines in Meselyne. The warehouse stores ingots of copper and tin, and great quantities of rock salt. Guildmaster Gorin of Astenel, a portly red-haired man of middle years, maintains the guildhall.

The Order of the Balm of Joy. The temple houses an excellent infirmary, and accepts labor in lieu of donations. The majority of the town are adherents to the goddess Peoni, and many visit the temple on holy days.
Most locals prefer to put their faith in treatments provided at the temple than trust the questionable skills of the local physician [35].
20. MERCANTYLERS’ HALL
The Olokand commodities exchange. Upstairs is a guild members’ hostel. The guild has significant influence in Olokand. Maldan Harabor takes pains to remain on friendly terms with all Olokand’s mercantylers. Doldas of Nyosn [14], is the local guildmaster.

The caravan is long overdue and Dabin fears that half of his working capital may be lost. He has hired the mercenary Brewlin [40] to investigate as soon as the weather allows.

Orhan’s anxious personality and darting eyes make many think him dishonest, which is not the case. Orhan has been milling and baking in Olokand for three decades. When outsiders comment unfavorably about him, locals are quick to correct them; sometimes strenuously.

Othena is a pious Peonian who tends the deceased of Olokand with care and understanding. A beautiful woman of early middle years, she was married against her will to an elderly man when she was very young. Widowed some years later, she became the focus of competition among his peers. Disgusted, she sold his property and bought this franchise in 717. Since then, she has resisted offers of marriage from wealthy, even noble, suitors.
31. LITIGANT (Honelon of Udibis)

A pompous man of latter years with a dashing mane of silver hair, Honelon specializes in trade agreements and contracts. He occasionally defends accused criminals in the Shire Moot, although his services are expensive. He and the sheriff dislike each other.

Josith makes locks of inferior quality, but they are adequate for most needs. He sometimes sells higher quality locks from other smiths at above average prices.

Tinel travels widely throughout Kaldor on business, and is quick to report news to the sheriff.

Cautious old Indalon, an Ilviran, sells great quantities of fine cheeses, sausages, and pickled cabbage to the local fighting orders and to the mercenary companies and caravan masters that require preserved foods. He thinks the guildmaster of the Miners’ Guild [18] a self-important Halean dandy, but hides it well. He is forced to deal with Gorin for the rock salt he needs for his trade. Gorin is unaware of Indalon’s dislike.

The specialty is cut rate medicines and quackery. Eredos is very old, very deaf, and somewhat senile. Most locals attend the infirmary in the Peonian temple rather than risk treatment here, but illicit drug deals, and tourney and caravan patients keep both eating well.

Sirhet tans hides, makes leather goods, and deals in furs. His brother Alnet is a trapper on good terms with Taelda tribesmen to the north, and Sirhet knows most of the northern fur traders. Every spring, they allow him to select the best pelts from their cargo. Sirhet pays well and obtains the finest furs, mostly used in expensive fur cloaks for the nobility. Sirhet also produces fur trim that he sells to Dabin [25] for resale to the clothiers of Tashal.

A nephew of Tinel of Portin [33], Harbal and his wife Hilma raise and train donkeys and pack mules for use on Fur Road caravans. Owain comes from a long line of Jarin charcoalers. His family fled Quimen when the Jarin Rebellion was crushed and he barely remembers Jara. He works with Tenaar of Shetag [11] to smuggle arms to Jarin rebels, but knows nothing of the Tenaar’s Lia Kavair connections.

Val is a widow, but was always a better potter than her husband so quality and business have improved. Brewlin is captain of the Anoth Rangers, a company of about 20 seasoned light foot. They are well employed as guards for caravans, pilgrims, and others [25] who can afford their services. Brewlin’s toughness is legendary. During the winter, he lives in this complex of three buildings with eleven unmarried Rangers in raucous squalor.

Sirhet tans hides, makes leather goods, and deals in furs. His brother Alnet is a trapper on good terms with Taelda tribesmen to the north, and Sirhet knows most of the northern fur traders. Every spring, they allow him to select the best pelts from their cargo. Sirhet pays well and obtains the finest furs, mostly used in expensive fur cloaks for the nobility. Sirhet also produces fur trim that he sells to Dabin [25] for resale to the clothiers of Tashal.
37. OSTLER (Harbal of Portin)

A nephew of Tinel of Portin [33], Harbal and his wife Hilma raise and train donkeys and pack mules for use on Fur Road caravans. They keep their animals in an attached barn at night, but graze them daily in a fenced compound just off-map to the north. He has dreams of building a new inn at this location.
38. CHARCOALER (Owain of Culain)
Size: 6 Quality: 3 Prices: Average
Owain comes from a long line of Jarin charcoalers. His family fled Quimen when the Jarin Rebellion was crushed and he barely remembers Jara. He works with Tenaar of Shetag [11] to smuggle arms to Jarin rebels, but knows nothing of the Tenaar’s Lia Kavair connections.
39. POTTER (Valeran of Kelin)

Val is a widow, but was always a better potter than her husband so quality and business have improved. A journeyman and two apprentices help her produce fine pots, many with Laranian decorations that sell spendidly during the Chelebin Tournament. Val’s kiln is at 39a. Her daughter Brenlyn is attractive, but rebellious.
40. MERCENARY (Brewlin of Boylan)
Brewlin is captain of the Anoth Rangers, a company of about 20 seasoned light foot. They are well employed as guards for caravans, pilgrims, and others [25] who can afford their services. Brewlin’s toughness is legendary. During the winter, he lives in this complex of three buildings with eleven unmarried Rangers in raucous squalor.
41. HARPER (Almanel of Thatain)
Size: 1 Quality: 4 Prices: Average
Almanel, sister to the Hideworker [36], makes many of the instruments used by common folk at dances and celebrations throughout the hundred.
42. ONA-SETRUM Also known as Murath’s Pit, Ona-Setrum is a limestone sinkhole with side caverns, once used to execute criminals. See p19-24 for map and details.
