Jarin Refugees

JARIN REFUGEES After the Jarin Rebellion in Orbaal of 701-3, many of the Jarin who had risen up fled the icy northern kingdom.
Some because they had been too visible and there was a price on their head and others because they could not stomach the failure of the rebellion and reconcile to living under the Ivinian conquerors.
A substantial number arrived in Kaldor via Noron’s Way and while many found welcome in Nephshire, more than a few made their way to Baseta, where the Constable welcomed them.
Baseta was in need of additional labor, and though the refugees made poor peasants, they were excellent as freehold farmers. Providing rents and cash crops, the Constable’s coffers swelled.
He approved a temple and new holdings sprang up in the eastern and southern portions of Baseta.
Sir Eres Tereneth has incorporated their customs and games into the annual festival, and would like to raise a dedicated company of militia from among them.
To that end, he has offered to establish a separate village for the refugees, with Klowyn of Seylne – the son of the rebellious Jarin overlord of Lorkin – as its headman. The 15’ granite stone at the Jarin Crossing is known as “The Jarin Sword” and is carved with numerous pictures and a hole in the center of its upper section.
There are many rumors about its origin, and some believe that it was placed in order to reveal the location of a hidden treasure when the sun shines through the hole at the right time of year. No one has ever found any.
