Harabor

Sir Maldan Harabor, sheriff of Meselyneshire, bastard son of King Miginath Elendsa of Kaldor.
  Lady Areta Harabor (nee Alkinil)
The wife of Maldan Harabor is a shrewd and calculating woman devoted to her husband and children.
She has carried the burden of managing the family estates since she married Maldan in 697. The couple met at the Royal Chelebin Tournament of Chivalry in 696, when Areta was a fair-haired, slender beauty from Nephshire. Maldan was very taken with her and wore her favor throughout the five day joust, although he was eliminated in the next to last round.
Throughout the following year, they exchanged letters, and Maldan visited whenever his duties in the Royal High Guard allowed. In 697, Maldan, having already obtained the favor of Areta’s father for her hand in marriage, sought the permission of his father, King Miginath.
The king pondered the request for some months, conferring with advisors as to the political consequences of the marriage. These months were an agony for young Areta and she has never quite forgiven King Miginath for them. The king finally granted his permission, and the couple married later that year in Tashal. In 699, Areta gave birth to Maldan’s heir, Mirald. Kornuska was born three years later, but the birth was troublesome and Areta took two years to recuperate.
It was during this period that Maldan grew to appreciate the wit and intelligence of his wife. Areta is an intellectual match for any man in the kingdom. Her ambition to become Queen of Kaldor easily matches Maldan’s desire to become King.
Areta is vain and quick-tempered, especially with those less intelligent than she. She insists upon the finest clothing and maintains a bonded master clothier at Tentru Manor. Most of her servants loathe and fear her.
  Sir Mirald Harabor
Mirald is the recently knighted eldest son of Sir Maldan Harabor, and is King Miginath’s eldest unacknowledged grandson.
He is the same age as Scina Dariune, and the two young nobles dislike each other, influenced perhaps by the rivalry between their respective fathers.
Although political differences influence this rivalry, the current negotiations between Troda Dariune and Cheselyne Elendsa for the betrothal of Scina to her daughter, Cheselyne Hosath, have enraged Mirald further. He is hopelessly smitten by the younger Cheselyne’s beauty, and he desires her more than the throne itself. She has used his blind adoration to her advantage on more than one occasion.
Mirald epitomizes the worst of feudal aristocracy. He is arrogant and high-handed, especially to those of lesser station. He frequently uses his position to impose his will on commoners, especially women. Those who object are beaten.
Mirald commands the two companies of castle guard, and has surrounded himself with like-minded retainers. He fears his father and does what he can to please him. Maldan has high expectations of his eldest son, and is pleased so far, seeing only the results of Mirald’s progress and not the methods by which they were gained.
