Gobryas was one of 2 constant companions of Darius the Red and carried his mystic lance. He was also honored amongst Cyrus' family as a world renowned general. His position created an opportunity for his daughter Roxana to be married to Emperor Bardiya. The deception of Gaumata was revealed to Gobryas through Roxana. This information was used to rally Darius the Red to lead a charge against the Magi. Their success is primarily attributed to Gobryas' unmatched physical strength.

Gobryas remained as Darius' general. It is suspected they had a discreet romance amongst the upper class, but it was obvious to others. They were so close that Darius took his Daughter Roxana as his wife and adopted her children before he even was crowned emperor. In turn Gobryas married a sister of Darius'.

During the Insurrection on the Palace, Gobryas was remembered to have killed a swarm of Alexanders' soldiers and summoned fiends with his bare hands. No one knows for sure what happened to him, but he left a pool of carnage in his wake.
