The Empire of Hajinaru

From atop Tennoyama, the tallest peak, and last vestige of unsettled land on Teikokami, you can see the Devouring Metropolis spread from sea to sea. The dark smog of Gyōkoa, impossibly tall Ishitawa Citadel sprouting from the Hokuheki prefecture in the north, the decaying Mazushisawa district; all are visible from up here.   Hajinaru is a machine, built only to expand and devour further, and it's people are similarly covetous. Anyone with a taste of power hungers for more, though nobody acknowledges it, everybody knows that everyone is out for themselves, and those that play the great game are willing to win it by almost any cost.

Structure

With the Emperor at it's head, and the Shogun guiding his hand, the land's Regents are usually free to pursue their own desires, assuming they don't openly oppose the will of the the Emperor, and as such Hajinaru is an empire of many contrasts. From the tirelessly burning forges of Gyōkoa, to Minafukai, the Deep Harbour where foreign trade is centred under the protection of the largest naval fleet in the Empire, the Regents all have their fields of expertise, and far be it from the Emperor to stand in the way of their strengths.   But the Emperor is no fool. They know that the seat of power on the continent of Teikokami is always at stake, and the Regents of Hajinaru are constant players in Subarashī gēmu (the Great Game in the common tongue). Emperors have been supplanted before, and no doubt it will happen again, and most families of noble lineage claim descent from the same line as that of the Emperor. All it takes is one slip, one poor decision, or one well executed plan for the tables to turn, and reshape the face of Hajinaru politics.

Public Agenda

The Empire exists to expand it's boundaries and ensure it's culture and peoples remain dominant on Gyrraholm.

Assets

A wealth of arcane and crafting knowledge, as well as the largest sheer population of all the countries of Gyrraholm.

History

The continent of Teikokami is unique on Gyrraholm, as the only uninhabited parts of the land exist beneath the world's surface. The Empire of Hajinaru spans from border to border as a sort of Megalopolis, ruled over from the Tennoken prefecture by the Emperor (with guidance from their appointed Shogun), with Regents of noble clans governing over individual prefectures by the Emperor's decree. These prefectures once existed as independent kingdoms for a time, but over the centuries The Devouring City has claimed them all, solidifying the royal line's divine right to rule (much to the frustration of the noble clans).   First and foremost, it's expected that the Emperor strive to expand their empire, and that has hit somewhat of a stalling point in recent centuries. After covering the continent, Hajinaru once expanded across the sea to claim the landmasses to the North, which were held by tribes native to Wildehart, who called it Ennisgwyn (after their Monumental of storms and light, who they claim blessed their sea passage). As the years passed, these lands were converted into what became known as Imono shima (or Foundry Isles in common), thanks to the cold ingenuity of the Kamakaen clan, who developed a facility for creation of Arcanics, servant constructs that are fueled by magic. These lands have, however, been lost to the Empire in recent decades, following the mass malfunction of Arcanic servants and the resulting uprising.
