Shadowfell Fever

When the Shadowfell invaded the Material Plane, it didn't stopped only on opening portals and sending demons and devils through them, it also infected the environment. At first glance it seems that animals and plants were corrupted by the Shadowfell invasion. However, later on, it was discovered that the soil itself was corrupted. Because of that, some plants gathered their water and nutrients mingled with Shadowfell corruption. Thus, they would infect the plants without dramatically altering their apearances. Since the Shadowfell invasion was drove off the Material Plane, the corruption faded on most places. However, there are certain places where it still lingers. One of those places, are the dark and damp caves. It seems like the corruption joined the darkness of those places and refused to leave the Material Plane. Such environment is propitious for the growth of mushrooms, wich grew with Shadowfell corruption.    After studying, the scholars were able to finally determine how the disease work. People who had any kind of contact with those places were contacted by the mushroom's polen. Since the polen is similar to dust, it penetrates most garments and once it contact the skin, it infects the host. Once infected, it takes 2 - 3 days for the first simptom to reveal, black spots alongside the body. If left untreated, after 10 days of the infection the host will have fever. It will be a fever full of hallucinations, that acording to those who had, it is a never ending nightmare full of shadows and terror, thus the name of the disease.   The most efficient way of curing Shadowfell Fever, is by the powers of a cleric or paladin. However, since it is not common to have one lying aroung, specially on small villages, the scholars and clergy found out a mix of herbs that were able to cure it. The herbs are very common, but the must be blessed by a cleric/paladin to be effective. Otherwise, it does not cure the disease.   There are no reports of fatalities caused by Shadowfell Fever. The most advanced case reported was a dragonborn who was treated after 25 days. The reports says that he was still burning with fever and hallucinating. In addition, the black spots increased their size and started to change the body, thus creating a speculation that if left unattended, it should corrupt the host. Nevertheless, there are no reports of any host that completed the corruption. The dragonborn was cured using the medicine, the corruption disappeared from his body without leaving any kind of mark or scar. The only colateral effect reported, is that he has more nigthmares than an average person and he reported seeing shadows that no one else can see.
