TO-DO LIST/COMPARISON LIST
1. Aboleth
-no subraces, just different disciplines/jobs
-gender based on role/abstract thought/theory. Very hoity-toity. Biologically, there are two genders but aboleths circumvented this via spellwork centuries upon centuries ago.
-lived in the gulf and the lake with a few sky settlements, all of which have been abandoned
-1,500-3,000 years
2. Basilisk -"subrace" in the fact your stats change completely at a certain point when you grow to a certain age and lose your limbs -gender based on age. Younger basilisks are female and their older, legless counterparts are male. Unlike purple worms, this is a permanent transition; they are not hermaphrodites in the same way. -lived by the icy Dragontomb and the Claws, which have been completely abandoned -300-600 years
3. Chimera -three subraces that determine your status in chimeric society: nobles, who have one main head (possibly a tail head) and all other creature characteristics are expressed on the body and not as another head; midtiers, who only have one other head (possibly a tail head commoners, who typically have three heads (and possibly a tail head). It is the number of heads that matters, not which creature's head manifests or what particular traits a chimera has. If a noble has a goat's head and no wings but lion claws, this does not make them lesser than the midtier who has wings, a snake tail, and a lion and dragon head. -gender is a more human typical human male-female split. Each gender has a particular purpose in warmaking, which is also refined by their subrace -live in the Fyrnalian Mountains with the dragons, still do except for portions that are contested. -800-1,200 years
4. Displacer Beast -no subraces -gender human-typical male/female split but with no gender discrimination/differences other than identity. Displacer beasts just want things to be simple, dammit! -lived on the northern plains, which have been abandoned -600-1,000 years
5. Hydra -two subraces, the waterdwelling folk and the dragonkin: the first are amphibious and have smoother scales and longer necks, while the second are more stout, rough-scaled, and cannot breathe under water. -gender based on the proportion of heads being gendered this or that. If your heads are half male and half female your gender is different than a being with heads 1/4 male and 3/4 female. Biologically, anyone can have children with anyone else. -live on the southern coast by the gulf, mostly still inhabited though some areas are contested/lost. -1,000-1,500 years
6. Mimic -no subraces -gender is as fluid as can be, no rules. A bit of game. Biologically asexual with a crude version of "sexual" reproduction. -live everywhere and anywhere, though conquered and contested lands are mostly abandoned -400-800 years
7. Purple Worm -no subraces -hermaphrodites, mostly male. Females are few and culturally it is something you are allowed to be once you hold a lot of influence and respect, but it can be revoked (though of course they can ignore them, though they will become a pariah/hated). -live in the eastern desert, still do -5,000-10,000 years
8. Tarrasque -no subraces -gender based on human-typical male/female split. All could be warriors and win glory. -were nomads; now extinct -10,000+ years
