Goiganola

The remnants of an ancient Sabbish city are the centerpiece for modern Goiganola. It rests on the river Maja, split in two by the currents. The language of this place is ancient, a dialect of the language spoken in Sab at the time. This ancient language is mostly used for rituals in the present, but those who use it treasure it.  The ruins are of one of the last cities to fall to Corthalia, and one of the best surviving cities thanks to some clever negotiation on the part of its former rulers.

Demographics

Mostly human and Drosh.Used to be only human and Drosh in the ancient days. Now a metropolis with hundreds of cultures and peoples mingling.

Government

This city is ruled by a five-person executive branch. One manages finances, the other manages infrastructure, the third manages historical sites, the fourth manages security and police forces, and the fifth manages government-owned businesses like hospitals and airports. The legislative body is comprised of three bodies. A representative body with one person for every thousand in the city, a seccond body with one person for every precinct, and a third body with one representative from each of the racespermanantly residing in the area. The judicial branch works like the US system.

Defences

Dry trenches on either side of the ruins can act as canals to form a temporary moat for any people caught in a terrifying attack. Yes, ruins might be less advanced, but would you rather be in a thee-story-tall stone obolisk made by the hands of people familiar with the materials, or a skyscraper that has twenty stories and hundreds of extraneous lights and electrical equipment that could easily start the place on fire? The city also has an outer wall with similar canals for those who cannot get in the ruins on time. The whole place is moderately policed with a focus on high-traffic areas like transit hubs and municipal buildings.

Industry & Trade

The ruins provide a billion dollar industry for tourists. Museum curators and volunteers work tirelessly to preserve tem, but there are always areas of less interest that become worn down or vandalized. The river is another tourist attraction with boat tours and historic experiences of the river on replicated skiffs from the ancient days.

Infrastructure

Modern Goianola has three city districts, each with a transit hub, post office, and phone. There are twenty power plants throughout the city. There are also hovercraft and flying vehicles powered by magic. This city, as all Corthalian and Sabbish cities do, has a dry toilet system where the waste is covered in odor-canceling powder, bagged in specialized bags filled with the same powder, and the contents are taken to a local plant where they are incinerated.

Assets

This city has a billion-dollar tourist industry centered around the ruins. A rich culture of Sabbish paganism also invites intrigued foreigners.

Guilds and Factions

The Sabbish Historical Society is the primary preserver of the ancient ruins. The Tourist Industry network which includes many government agencies works against them sometimes to bring more money into the city. The river also provides gems and minerals for the adventurous tourist and local. Hovercraft and floating automated drones draw more people from rural areas more interested in technology than the pristine environment of a museum.

History

The city of Goiaganola is ancient, more ancient than the Corthalian empire. Humans and Drosh coincided in this city for thousands of years before Corthalians conquered it. After five years of tense battle, the final ruler of ancient Goiganola surrendered his freedom to protect his peoples' lives. Some clever negotiations on the part of his vassals led to most of the city being preserved. Corthalians and Sabbish alike lived in the old city for many more years. Within a thousand though, the old city was nearly unrecognizable duue to expansion and slight reinforcement with newer technology. Over thousands of years, the city transformed from an ancient metropolis to a medieval fiefdom to a modern town to a futuristic metropolis.

Architecture

Ancient Goiganolan architecture is very sturdy. Made with granite, the ancient ruins stand as a testament to nonmagical architecture at the time. Statues are huge and impressive but not very detailed. Buildings are well constructed but still use mrtar and brick and make use of uneven stairs. Modern Goiganola boasts skyscrapers that loom over the ancient ruins, twisting and turning at he whims of the mages who designed them. Skyscrapers that are taller than even those in Earth's Dubai support hovercraft parking on higher levels. Structures are connected with aluminum bridges to support each other without much risk to the main structures in the event of a collapse.

Natural Resources

Rivers and wind tunnels in the city provide green energy to those who desire it. The river and nearby mines provide heaavy metals and minerals for those who search for them casually or as a career choice.
